Participants Conclude Ikat Weaving Workshop with Pride and Purpose

With hands shaped by patience and creativity, participants of the Ikat Weaving Workshop proudly showcased the culmination of their learning journey, reflecting the enduring beauty of the Isinay weaving tradition and the community’s commitment to preserving its cultural identity.

The meaningful activity was attended by the Isinay Advocates, Punong Barangay Hon. John L. Angat of Barangay Bagumbayan, IPMR Sherlock Jama E. Magaway, representatives from the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office, and Aruga Handwovens headed by Ms. Jeannie Laccay, which initiated and organized the workshop in support of preserving and promoting indigenous weaving traditions. Throughout the workshop, participants deepened their appreciation for the art of ikat weaving, a tradition woven with history, identity, and shared heritage.

More than a workshop, the activity became a celebration of unity, learning, and cultural pride, as each woven thread symbolized the dedication of the participants and the collective effort to keep the Isinay weaving tradition alive for future generations.

Day 2 of “Man’ Ave (Let’s Weave): Tau’t Ikat” Strengthens Cultural Preservation Through Collaboration and Community Support

The second day of the workshop continued to emphasize the significance of preserving local weaving traditions and cultural heritage through active participation and shared learning. The activity was visited by representatives from the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office, members of the Board of the Saint Vincent Parish Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and students from Saint Mary's University, reflecting a growing collective support for indigenous craftsmanship and heritage conservation.

Through collaboration and participation, the workshop remains a meaningful platform for promoting cultural awareness and inspiring future generations to value and sustain the rich traditions of local heritage.

In celebration of National Cultural Heritage Month, Day 1 of the workshop entitled “Man’ Ave (Let’s Weave) Tau’t Ikat” in partnership with Aruga Handwovens became a meaningful gathering dedicated to culture, creativity, and tradition. Participants were introduced to the beauty of weaving and the importance of preserving indigenous craftsmanship and cultural identity through every woven piece.
