TALISAY CITY, Negros Occidental β The Department of Education- Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) officially launched the 2026 Regional Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off Program today, rallying education stakeholders to prepare public schools for the upcoming academic year.
The kick-off was hosted by the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Talisay City, marking its milestone debut as the newest schools division office in the newly established DepEd Negros Island Region (NIR).
DepEd Undersecretary and Chief of Staff, Atty. Fatima Lipp D. Panontongan, served as the the eventβs keynote speaker.
In her address, Usec. Panontongan emphasized the active efforts of the Department of Education under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara and backed by the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., to uplift the country's basic education system.
Among the key national initiatives she highlighted were the institutionalization of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program to address learning gaps, alongside the aggressive hiring of additional teachers and non-teaching personnel to support educators and ease administrative burdens.
Usec. Panontongan further lauded the local community, stating that the success of these programs relies heavily on the collective strength of grassroots partners.
She also praised how each and every stakeholderβfrom local government units to private volunteersβdirectly contributes to the holistic development of the learners.
The kick-off program featured a multi-venue itinerary, beginning with a press conference and early morning awareness motorcade from Don Simplicio Lizares Elementary School to the main program venue at Talisay Hope GK Sibol Elementary School.
The morning activities also highlighted community-driven initiatives, including a ceremonial plot planting activity and a walkthrough of the showcase gallery.
Key education and local government leaders showed strong convergence during the event, including DepEd NIR Regional Director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, CESO III, and Talisay City Mayor Hon. Atty. Maria Rowena G. Lopez-Lizares.
The program concluded with the official declaration of the Regional Brigada Eskwela 2026 by RD Uytico, followed by a ceremonial turnover of resources and a partner recognition ceremony, signaling the start of Brigada Eskwela across the region's public schools.*
