COOPERATIVES, STAKEHOLDERS JOIN COASTAL CLEANUP DRIVE IN DIPOLOG

DIPOLOG CITY โ€“ Various stakeholders, including cooperative groups and members of the Dipolog City Cooperative Development Council, joined a Coastal Cleanup Drive along the shores of Dipolog Boulevard on October 10, 2026, in support of the celebration of Cooperative Month 2026 with the theme: โ€œStrong Cooperatives: United Communities for Peace and Development,โ€ highlighting the vital role of cooperatives and community stakeholders in advancing environmental protection, unity, and sustainable development.

Spearheaded by the City Government of Dipolog through the City Cooperative Development Office, headed by City Cooperative Development Officer Elena Doris R. Sarande, in partnership with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage collective action in protecting the cityโ€™s coastal resources. As the new pawikan season draws near, let us look back at last seasonโ€™s conservation efforts!

From October 2025 to April 2026, a total of 2,751 Olive Ridley sea turtle hatchlings were successfully released into the sea off the coast of Dipolog City. These hatchlings came from 47 nests found at various sites along Dipolog Boulevard and the coastal stretch of Dipolog Airport.

This achievement would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the City Government of Dipolog, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), DENR-CENRO A2, local fisherfolk, barangays, and concerned citizens.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our resident pawikan in-charge, Roldan A. Maylon; our partner from CENRO Manukan, Jim V. Montejar; and our dedicated volunteer patroller, Manuel O. Subrado, for their invaluable commitment to protecting these marine treasures.

We are deeply grateful for the communityโ€™s continued support and cooperation in safeguarding these gentle creatures and helping ensure that future generations can witness their return to our shores.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) successfully released a Reticulated Python (๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜บ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ด) into its natural habitat at the Dipolog Cogon Eco Park today, September 24, 2026.

Measuring approximately 1.16 meters in length, the python was rescued by personnel of the City Veterinarian Office in Dicayas, Dipolog City. It was subsequently turned over to the City ENRO for proper handling, assessment, and eventual release back into the wild.

The Reticulated Python is among the wildlife species protected under the Republic Act No. 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

The public is reminded to immediately report or surrender any wildlife encountered to the City ENRO or the nearest DENR office. Please avoid harming, capturing, or attempting to handle wildlife on your own.

Let us work together to protect our wildlife and conserve our local biodiversity.

We thank the Dipolog Service Team and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines for joining the City Environment and Natural Resources Office in our cleanup drive at the Dipolog Boulevard (Port Area) early this morning, September 19, 2026.

We also extend our gratitude to all our barangays, government agencies, environmental groups, and community volunteers who initiated and participated in various cleanup drives conducted across the city today.

Every cleanup is a step toward cleaner waterways, healthier communities, and a more sustainable city.

Happy International Coastal Cleanup Day to all!๐ŸŒŠ

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office facilitated an educational tour for the Grade 1 to Grade 10 students of Dipolog Community School, Inc. at the Cogon Eco-Tourism Park on September 2, 2026.

The students learned about the parkโ€™s importance as one of the โ€œlungsโ€ of the city, its biodiversity, and the various flora and fauna found in the area.

Through hands-on experiences in nature, children gain not only knowledge but also a deeper appreciation and a sense of responsibility for the environment. ๐ŸŒฑ
