📊 DATA THAT MATTERS | DepEd ZN Strengthens Assessment Modernization

Leaders in education from across the Schools Division of Zamboanga del Norte gathered on March 9–10, 2026 at Top Plaza Hotel, Dipolog City for the Orientation cm Consultative Conference on the National Assessment in Basic Education (NASBE) Modernization Plan—a significant step toward strengthening data-driven decision-making in basic education.

The two-day conference brought together select Public Schools District Supervisors, District ICT Coordinators, District Designated Testing Coordinators, School Heads, and Education Program Supervisors to align efforts in improving the collection, management, and utilization of learner assessment data across the division.

A key highlight of the event was the consultative dialogue on Project LAMP (Learners Assessment Modernization Plan), anchored on the SILVERTEK Program, which aims to modernize the assessment system through technology integration, stronger data systems, and more responsive educational planning. Participants actively shared insights and recommendations to ensure that assessment results truly reflect the learning realities of students in the field.

The conference was enriched by the expertise and leadership of Ervie A. Acaylar, Chief Education Supervisor (SGOD); Daisy Flor J. Romaguera, Education Program Supervisor in Science; Zyhrine P. Mayormita, OIC – Assistant Schools Division Superintendent; and Jerry C. Bokingkito, CESO VI – Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, together with the School Management, Monitoring and Evaluation (SMME) Team.

More than just numbers and reports, the gathering emphasized the true purpose of assessment: improving teaching, guiding policies, and ensuring that every learner receives quality education.

Through strengthened collaboration and innovation, DepEd Zamboanga del Norte continues to move forward—building smarter assessment systems for better learning outcomes.

On February 22, 2026, the Philippine Education Placement Test (PEPT) was successfully administered at Sindangan Pilot Demonstration School, Sindangan Central District, Schools Division of Zamboanga del Norte reinforcing DepEd’s unwavering commitment to inclusive and accessible education.

The activity was led by Chief Examiner Shiela Mae Falconete-Maraguinot, School Principal II, whose strong leadership ensured a smooth, organized, and learner-centered conduct of the examination.

With professionalism and integrity, Room Examiners Rouel A. Baul and Miraluz C. Yamuta carefully facilitated the assessment process, upholding standards of fairness and credibility.

Behind the scenes, the dedicated support staff — Ivie Girl L. Ututalum, Charise M. Jugo, and Meraflor B. Arances — played a vital role in ensuring the seamless implementation of the activity.

With the strong guidance and management of SGOD-SMME, this initiative reaffirmed DepEd’s commitment to inclusive education—providing overage and out-of-school learners the opportunity to be placed in the grade level appropriate to their knowledge, skills, and age.

Indeed, the PEPT is more than a test—it is a pathway to opportunity, a bridge back to formal schooling, and a powerful reminder that education remains a right for every Filipino learner.

👏 Congratulations to the entire team for a job well done!

Project RISE: Mapping the Path to Every Learner
In the vast terrains of Zamboanga del Norte, the greatest barrier to a dream is often a mountain range or a two-five hour trek. Project RISE is the Schools Division of Zamboanga del Norte ’s answer to the "tyranny of distance."

By leveraging DO 40, s. 2014, the SMME section isn't just moving folders; they are moving the finish line closer to the doorstep of every child.

Breaking Barriers to Access

Access is the heartbeat of Project RISE. Here is how the initiative transforms geography into opportunity:

* Bringing Schools Closer (Establishment): No child should have to cross three rivers to reach a classroom. By establishing new schools in "education deserts," RISE eliminates the physical exhaustion that leads to dropouts.

* Granting Autonomy (Separation): When a mountain "Annex" becomes an independent school, it gains its own Direct MOOE (Budget). This means repairs happen faster, books arrive sooner, and the school can finally serve its specific community's needs without waiting for a distant mother school’s approval.

* A Continuous Journey (Integration): By integrating elementary and secondary levels, RISE prevents the "Grade 6 Exit." When the high school is in the same compound, the transition is invisible and the motivation to continue is automatic.

From Statistics to Students

This initiative recognizes that Legal Identity = Resource Access. A school that is "officially" recognized is a school that receives government feeding programs, teacher items, and classroom funding.

> The Goal: To ensure that a learner’s postal code never determines their potential.
