DIGOS CITY, October 9, 2026 — Twenty-six homeowners association (HOA) presidents from various barangays in Digos City underwent leadership and communication training on Friday to strengthen their capacity to manage their associations and foster more organized and harmonious communities.

The City Government of Digos, through the City Housing and Relocation Office, conducted the HOA Leadership and Communication Training Seminar at the LYDO Teen Center Conference Room in observance of National Shelter Month 2026.

City Administrator Rex F. Cagas graced the activity and reaffirmed the city government’s support for initiatives that strengthen HOA leadership and community participation.

Facilitated by Jonathan Arendain of the University of Mindanao Digos College, the training covered leadership, effective communication, team management, and conflict resolution to help HOA presidents address community concerns and manage their respective associations more effectively.

The activity also included the HOA Federation Quarterly Meeting, which served as a platform for discussing homeowners’ concerns, identifying community needs, and exploring initiatives to support local development.

Under the administration of Mayor Josef F. Cagas, the City Government continues to support capacity-building initiatives for HOA leaders to promote stronger community organizations and more responsive neighborhood management.

𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗔𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗢𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 (7:00 AM) 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗠𝗢𝗞𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘|
Based on the latest ambient air monitoring data recorded, 𝐓𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐨𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, and 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 registered 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 air quality for PM2.5 with AQI values of 34.8, 40.2, and 41.2, respectively. Meanwhile, 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 registered 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑 air quality for PM2.5 with an AQI value of 82.

For PM10, 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐨𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 both registered 𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 air quality with AQI values of 32.4 and 31.5, respectively. On the other hand, 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 recorded 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑 air quality for PM10 with an AQI value of 55.

According to the Copernicus Fire Emission Watch and Zoom Earth Wind Direction forecasts, smoke from ongoing forest fires in South Papua and Kalimantan, Indonesia, is expected to continue affecting the Philippines through transboundary transport. Prevailing winds may carry smoke toward Mindanao, potentially resulting in elevated PM2.5 concentrations, haze, and reduced visibility in portions of the Davao Region. The persistence and intensity of the impact will depend on wind direction, atmospheric dispersion, rainfall, and the continued activity of fires in South Papua and Kalimantan.

HEALTH ADVISORY:
Tagum, Digos, Calinan & Malita Areas: The air quality is acceptable/excellent and poses no health risks for the general public. No health hazards are expected, and it is safe to carry out outdoor activities.

The City Government of Digos proudly receives the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG) for 2022 and 2023 during the Regional Conferment Ceremony held on October 8, 2026, at Sotogrande Hotel Davao.

The awards were received by Mr. Rex Fortich Cagas, City Administrator, and Mrs. Elmie A. Vibas, City Social Welfare and Development Officer, representing the City Government of Digos and its continuing commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of every child.

The SCFLG recognizes the commitment of local government units to creating a safe, nurturing, and child-friendly environment where children can grow, learn, participate, and thrive. For Digos City, this recognition reflects the collective efforts to strengthen local governance, uphold children's rights, and ensure that child protection and development remain integral to the delivery of public services.

This achievement is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the different departments and partner agencies of the Local Government Unit of Digos City, including the City Health Office (CHO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Department of Education (DepEd), Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), City Budget Office (CBO), City Local Governance Operations Office (CLGOO), City Accounting Office (CAO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Philippine National Police (PNP), and partner Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Through inter-agency collaboration, shared responsibility, and sustained commitment, Digos City continues to strengthen programs, policies, and services that support children's survival, development, protection, and participation.

More than an award, the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance serves as a reminder that building a child-friendly city is a shared responsibility and a continuing commitment. This recognition inspires the City Government of Digos and its partners to further enhance initiatives that put children at the center of local development.

City Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas welcomed representatives from the Davao Sur Police Provincial Office (DSPPO) Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (LCAT-VAWC) for a courtesy call.

The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination and collaboration in addressing concerns related to anti-trafficking efforts and the protection of women and children in Digos City.

Mayor Cagas also led the oath-taking ceremony of the Senior Citizens Women’s Association, marking the formal assumption of duties of its officers and members as they continue to promote the welfare and interests of senior citizens in the community.

The City Mayor also met with individuals and representatives of various organizations who visited his office to discuss their respective concerns, requests, and other matters.

DIGOS CITY — The City Government of Digos is conducting a traffic count to gather updated data that will guide the evaluation and improvement of public transport routes and services under the ongoing update of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP).

The first traffic-count station was established along Rizal Avenue early October 8, led by the Office of the City Planning and Development Officer (CPDO).

The activity is designed to collect current and objective data on traffic volume, vehicle movements, and travel patterns along major roads and intersections in the city.

The data will serve as a basis for determining appropriate route alignments and service requirements, identifying areas that may need additional or adjusted public transport services, and developing evidence-based transportation planning and traffic management interventions.

The traffic count will continue until October 20, 2026.

The City Government assured the public that the activity will not obstruct roads or disrupt the normal flow of traffic, and motorists may continue using the roads as usual.
