Agriculture plays a vital role in building healthier individuals and communities by anchoring food security directly within the goals of health and wellness.

Driven by this vision, the Department of Agriculture in Davao region, through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (DA-11 AMAD), brought Davao’s quality fruit producers to the national spotlight at the Health and Wellness Confex (HWONFEX) 2026, held at the SMX Convention Center Manila from September 4 to 5, 2026.

Organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the event provided a strategic platform to promote sustainable trade, expand market access, and foster consumer health awareness, underscoring organic agriculture, natural products, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) as vital drivers of consumer wellness and farmer empowerment.

Showcasing Davao’s signature fresh produce, the exhibit featured mangosteen, durian, lanzones, pomelo, and marang.

Through interactive tasting sessions and product displays, Davao’s fruit producers directly engaged with consumers, allowing both long-time patrons and first-time buyers to taste and learn more about Davao’s premium produce.

DA-11 continues to strengthen market linkages for local agri-preneurs, ensuring that regional farmers gain broader commercial exposure while positioning Davao as a premier source of healthy, high-value agricultural produce across the country. | via RAFIS11

In a continuing effort to strengthen the implementation of Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, the 2ND batch of Animal Welfare Enforcement Training for PNP personnel and LGU representatives is being conducted in Davao City on September 3-4, 2026.

The two-day training was attended by representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Local Government Units (LGUs) from Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental.

Philippine Saba (Cardava) bananas are set to reach new international markets following the signing of two Supply and Purchase Agreements during Asia Fruit Logistica (AFL) Hong Kong 2026 on September 2.

The agreements were signed between Philippine exporter Avante Agri-Products Philippines Inc. and Cozy and Korner Trading Co. of Hong Kong, as well as Fresh Produce Group (FPG) Limited of New Zealand.

Under the agreements, Cozy and Korner Trading Co. will serve as the exclusive distributor of Philippine Saba bananas in Hong Kong, while FPG Limited will serve as the exclusive importer and distributor in New Zealand.

The agreements strengthen trade linkages between Philippine exporters and international buyers and create new market opportunities for Philippine agricultural products, particularly premium export-quality Saba bananas. | via RAFIS11

“There’s already a market for durian, we just need to produce the best quality.”

For fruit farmer-producer Eduard Cervantes, the Kadiwa on Wheels is a great help in bringing Davao’s abundant durian closer to consumers, expanding the local market, and helping increase the per capita consumption of durian.

With a great supply and growing appreciation for the fruit, Eduard calls on fellow farmers to continue giving their best in producing quality durian because the market is there, and consumers are loving it.

“Wala na halos nagsasabi na hindi nila gusto ang durian. We have a market for durian, and even for our other fruits.”

Through initiatives like Kadiwa on Wheels, Davao’s fruit farmers gain opportunities to reach more consumers and strengthen the market for durian and other locally produced fruits.
