MYP Region 9 Participates in AGRIDAM Mindanao Leg 2026
Marielle Arañez

The Mindanao Youth Program (MYP) Region 9 participated in AGRIDAM (Agents for Resilient and Inclusive Disaster Action and Management) held from August 25–27, 2026 at Jackie’s Hotel, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. The activity was organized by the National Youth Commission (NYC) in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

The activity included a 24-hour technical training on the mandates and functions of Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (CBDRRMO). The training provided participants with relevant knowledge and practical understanding of disaster risk reduction and management, preparedness, and community resilience.

A significant component of the training was the recognition of the youth as important stakeholders and active partners in disaster risk reduction and management. Through meaningful youth participation, young people can contribute their knowledge, skills, and initiatives toward strengthening community preparedness and resilience.

The Mindanao Youth Program recognizes the importance of continuously equipping young people with the capacity to actively participate in disaster risk reduction and community development. Through engagements such as AGRIDAM, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting informed, empowered, and resilient youth who are prepared to take meaningful action for their communities.

This Linggo ng Kabataan, the Mindanao Youth Program celebrates the young Mindanawons who continue to shape a stronger, more inclusive, and more vibrant Mindanao.

Mindanao’s greatest strength is its people and diversity — a tapestry of cultures, traditions, languages, faiths, communities, and stories that make our island unique. As young Mindanawons, we are not only part of this diversity; we are its future stewards and champions.

💡 We participate by turning our ideas into action.
🤝 We build bridges across cultures and communities.
🌱 We protect our environment and natural resources.
🏘️ We contribute to our communities through volunteerism and leadership.
🎭 We celebrate and preserve our rich cultural heritage.
🚀 We innovate, create opportunities, and help build a more connected Mindanao.

The future of Mindanao is not something we simply wait for — we help build it.

To every young Mindanawon: your voice matters, your culture matters, and your contribution matters. Let us embrace our differences, draw strength from our diversity, and work together for a peaceful, prosperous, resilient, and united Mindanao.

This Linggo ng Kabataan, let us celebrate not only who we are, but what we can become — together. 💚

LOOK | The Mindanao Development Authority - South Central Mindanao Joins SOCCSKSARGEN Youth Volunteers Camp and Summit 2026

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Area Management Office for South Central Mindanao participated in the SOCCSKSARGEN Youth Volunteers Camp and Summit 2026, held under the theme “RISE UP GENERATION: Skills of Life, Strength for Nation.”

The event brought together young volunteers, youth leaders, partner organizations, and government agencies in a shared commitment to promote volunteerism, leadership, youth empowerment, and nation-building.

As part of the summit’s Youth Pep Talk session, participating government agencies and partner organizations presented their respective programs, services, opportunities, and initiatives aimed at empowering the youth and encouraging them to become more informed, engaged, and active contributors to their communities and the nation.

Among the participating agencies and organizations were the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development–Region XII; Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency; Provincial Youth Development Office; SOCCSKSARGEN Youth Volunteers Program; 1204th Community Defense Center; National Youth Commission; Department of Migrant Workers–Region XII; Mindanao Development Authority; Mindanao Youth Program Council; and PAG-ASA Youth Association of the Philippines.

The participation of MinDA underscored the importance of engaging the youth in development initiatives and strengthening partnerships among government institutions, civil society organizations, and youth volunteer groups across Mindanao.

The summit served as a powerful reminder that youth empowerment is strengthened through collaboration. When government agencies, organizations, and young volunteers work together, greater opportunities are created for the next generation to learn, lead, serve, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Together, the participants were encouraged to RISE UP—equipped with the skills of life, strengthened by the spirit of volunteerism, and empowered to become a strength for the nation.

RISE UP, YOUTH OF SOCCSKSARGEN!

Know Your Rights? Labor Rights? That's the Right Start! ✊💼

Empowering young people begins with ensuring they know their rights in the workplace.

On 16 July 2026, representatives from RightStart, a youth-led labor rights organization funded through the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), paid a courtesy visit to the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Headquarters to discuss opportunities for collaboration in advancing labor rights awareness among the youth.

The meeting explored ways to equip young Filipinos and ASEAN youth with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves from labor exploitation, advocate for fair wages, and promote safe, inclusive, and decent working conditions.

🌏 Why does this matter? As labor markets rapidly evolve due to technological change and economic uncertainty, empowering young workers with knowledge of their rights has never been more important. Institutions must provide support in helping young people to keep their hopes alive and empowering them to be a positive agents for development.

MinDA Executive Director Usec. Janet M. Lopoz commended RightStart for championing youth empowerment through labor rights education and expressed MinDA's commitment to exploring meaningful partnerships that will help build a generation of informed, empowered, and socially responsible young leaders.

Together, we can ensure that every young worker enters the workforce not only with skills but with the confidence to stand up for their rights.
