ππ’π’π | University of the Philippines President Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez shared during the press conference that the launch of the UP Mindanao School of Medicine is part of a bigger vision to establish a Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Mindanao.
Jimenez said the proposed hospital aims to respond to the lack of tertiary and apex-level healthcare facilities in Mindanao, providing patients with access to specialized medical services without having to travel outside the region.
The initiative is envisioned to bring together a medical school and a major teaching hospital within the UP Mindanao Mintal campus, creating an integrated center for medical education, training, research, and healthcare delivery.
According to Jimenez, the establishment of the hospital will be pursued in partnership with local government unit of Davao (LGU of Davao), with discussions and negotiations already underway. For now, the immediate focus is the development and launching of the School of Medicine, which will serve as a key foundation toward realizing the larger vision.
The UP President emphasized that the ultimate mission is to have both a school and a hospital in the Mintal campusβserving the healthcare needs of Mindanao and helping address the regionβs shortage of advanced medical facilities.
