The 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗖𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗢) 𝗣𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 conducted a Training on Asexual Propagation and Insect Pest and Disease Management of Cacao on May 21, 2026, in Barangay Pandaitan, Paquibato District, Davao City, bringing together leaders of the Pandaitan Rural Improvement Club (RIC), Pandaitan Farmers Association, and barangay officials to strengthen local cacao production.

Facilitated by Agricultural Technologists Melvin Desamparo and Keneth Paul Lofranco, the training focused on practical and science-based approaches to cacao farm management. Participants were equipped with knowledge and skills on proper asexual propagation techniques, enabling farmers to produce high-quality planting materials and establish more productive cacao plantations.

The activity also provided comprehensive discussions on the identification, prevention, and management of common insect pests and diseases affecting cacao. Emphasis was placed on proper farm sanitation, integrated pest management (IPM), and effective disease control measures to help farmers minimize crop losses and improve overall farm productivity.

Through hands-on learning and technical guidance, participants gained valuable insights on sustainable cacao farming practices that can contribute to higher yields, improved crop health, and increased income opportunities. The training forms part of CAgrO’s continuing efforts to support cacao growers by enhancing their technical capabilities and promoting resilient agricultural practices across Paquibato District.

By empowering farmer leaders and community stakeholders with updated agricultural knowledge, CAgrO continues to strengthen the local cacao industry while advancing food security, sustainable livelihoods, and agricultural development in Davao City.

The 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗖𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗢) 𝗣𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁
participated in the Family Development Session (FDS) on May 22, 2026, in Barangay Mapula, Paquibato District, Davao City, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and various government agencies. The activity gathered 4Ps beneficiaries and community stakeholders to assess the current living conditions of families and identify opportunities to improve their overall well-being through coordinated government interventions.

Representing CAGrO Paquibato, Agricultural Technologist Marvin S. Daguidor joined representatives from DepEd, BLGU, LCR, CSWDO, PNP, City Health Office, and ALS in delivering information and support services to participating families. During the session, CAGrO highlighted its commitment to empowering households through agricultural development programs that can contribute to food security and additional income generation.

A key component of the partnership between CAGrO and DSWD is the provision of technical assistance, skills training, and the establishment of the Gulayan sa Barangay Program among 4Ps beneficiaries. These initiatives aim to equip families with practical knowledge in food production, encourage backyard gardening, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities within their communities. By promoting self-sufficiency and strengthening local food systems, the program supports the long-term goal of improving the quality of life of participating households.

The activity reflects the continuing collaboration among government agencies in delivering holistic community development programs that address both social and economic needs. Through initiatives such as the Family Development Session, beneficiaries are given access to resources, knowledge, and opportunities that help build stronger, more resilient, and food-secure communities in Paquibato District.

The 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗖𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗢) 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁
in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), conducted a Capacity Enhancement on the Operation and Maintenance of Composting Facilities for Biodegradable Wastes (CFBW) on May 28, 2026, at Purok Balacan, Barangay Tambobong, Baguio District, Davao City. The activity was attended by officers and operators of the Mount Tongcaling Cultural Development Association (MTCDA) and the Obu-Manuvu Ancestral Domain Association (OMADA), beneficiaries of composting machinery provided by DA-BSWM in December 2025.

Facilitated by DA-BSWM staff Mr. Eddie Bentuzal and CAgrO staff Marilyn N. Bacla-an, the training aimed to enhance the participants’ technical knowledge and operational skills in managing composting facilities efficiently and sustainably. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on demonstrations, participants gained a deeper understanding of compost production processes, proper maintenance of composting equipment, and the importance of converting biodegradable wastes into valuable organic fertilizers.

The activity forms part of the government’s continuing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and effective waste management practices at the community level. By equipping farmer organizations and Indigenous Peoples’ associations with the necessary skills to operate and maintain composting facilities, the program supports the production of organic soil amendments that can improve farm productivity while reducing environmental waste.

The training also highlighted the vital role of collaboration among government agencies, local communities, and farmer organizations in advancing climate-resilient and sustainable farming systems. Through initiatives such as this, CAgrO Baguio District continues to empower agricultural communities with practical technologies and knowledge that contribute to food security, environmental protection, and long-term rural development.

The 𝗖𝗔𝗴𝗥𝗢 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 conducted the Establishment of String Beans Seed Production Area and Onion Bulb Seedling Bed Preparation on May 13, 2026, at the Seedbank and Research Division (SRD) in Malagos, Davao City, as part of its continuing commitment to strengthening sustainable local seed production and ensuring a reliable supply of quality planting materials for farmers.

The activity involved the field establishment and sowing of string beans intended for seed production, alongside the preparation of seedbeds for an onion bulb production trial. These initiatives are designed to evaluate and develop locally adapted planting materials while enhancing the city's capacity to produce quality seeds that can support agricultural programs and farming communities throughout Davao City.

By investing in local seed production, CAgRO aims to promote agricultural sustainability, reduce dependence on external seed sources, and improve the availability of high-quality seeds for future distribution. The project also serves as a valuable research and learning platform for developing resilient crop varieties suited to local growing conditions.

Through the continued efforts of the Seedbank and Research Division, CAgRO remains dedicated to advancing agricultural innovation, strengthening food security, and supporting farmers through accessible and sustainable seed production initiatives.

The 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗖𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗢) 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 personnel and staff attended the soft opening of the Baguio District Agri-Fisheries Farmers Association (BADAFFA) Vegetable Hub held on May 18, 2025 at the CAgrO–Seedbank and Research Division Compound, Brgy. Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City.

The activity formally marked another milestone for local farmer organizations, beginning with a welcome address from Acting Municipal Agricultural Officer Dario A. Divino, followed by the opening remarks of BADAFFA Chairperson Genovivo A. Cajes. Messages of support were also shared by CAgrO Assistant Department Head Edgardo A. Haspe, HUCAFC Chairperson Eduardo Devera, RAFC Chairperson Epifanio Loyola, and DAFC Chairperson Nelson Tagud, all emphasizing the importance of strengthening agricultural programs and empowering local farmers through collective initiatives.

A key highlight of the program was the discussion led by IDSD Chief James Arly Danac, who emphasized the importance of effective marketing strategies, business development, and innovation in sustaining farmers’ enterprises. He encouraged the association to strengthen collaboration among members to improve productivity and generate better income opportunities through proper product marketing and value chain participation.

The event was actively participated in by various farmers’ associations and cooperatives across Baguio District, reflecting strong unity and shared commitment to advancing the agri-fisheries sector. The establishment of the Vegetable Hub is seen as a strategic step toward improving market access, strengthening local agri-enterprises, and promoting sustainable agricultural development in the district.

The 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗖𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗢) – 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗙𝗥𝗠𝗦𝗗), in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region XI (BFAR XI) through the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division – Training Unit (RFTFCD-TU), conducted a Hands-on Training on Post-Harvest Technology and Value-Adding of Fishery Products on May 12, 2026, at the Barangay Lasang Covered Court, Davao City.

The activity gathered 25 members of the Bucana Lasang Fisherfolk Association (BuLasFA) and aimed to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in proper fish handling, processing, and value-adding techniques. Through the training, participants were equipped with strategies to improve product quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and explore additional livelihood opportunities through fish processing and product innovation.

During the hands-on sessions, participants learned proper sanitation and food safety practices, efficient fish preparation methods, and techniques for maximizing the value of fishery products. The training highlighted the importance of post-harvest management in helping fisherfolk increase profitability while ensuring safer and higher-quality food products for consumers.

To further support the association’s fish processing activities, various post-harvest materials and equipment were distributed to participants, including chopping boards, knives, forceps, sealers, trays, aprons, measuring cups, strainers, and large plastic basins. These tools are expected to improve the efficiency and safety of their fish handling and processing operations within the community.

Through collaborative efforts between CAgrO-FRMSD and BFAR XI, the activity reflects the continued commitment of government agencies in empowering fisherfolk communities through sustainable livelihood initiatives, technical capacity-building, and improved fisheries management practices in Davao City.
