RUFUS RODRIGUEZ THANKS PBBM FOR SEEKING INDIAN SUPPORT FOR MINDANAO RAILWAY

Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez lauded President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for seeking Indian support and expertise for the Mindanao Railway Project.

During his visit to India for the 18th BRICS Summit, President Marcos met with representatives of Rail India Technical and Economic Service Ltd. (RITES) to discuss possible cooperation on major railway projects in the Philippines.

The Mindanao Railway Project was identified as the first priority among the projects being considered by RITES, along with the proposed mass rail system in Cebu and the extension of the Philippine National Railways from Tutuban.

RITES may provide technical assistance, explore public-private partnerships (PPP), and help the Philippines access official development assistance (ODA).

“I thank President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for giving priority to the Mindanao Railway Project and for seeking India’s expertise and support to make this long-awaited project a reality,” Rodriguez said.

The Kagay-anon lawmaker said that a reliable railway system would improve connectivity across Mindanao, making it easier for people and goods to travel and helping boost economic growth in the region.

He also thanked the Indian government and RITES for their willingness to explore cooperation with the Philippines.
