𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼-𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮. 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀

To ensure small businesses thrive while maintaining fair and safe workplace environments, a Technical and Advisory Visit (TAV) Orientation was conducted on August 20, 2026, at the PESO Building, Municipal Compound, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. This initiative was organized in accordance with the directive of DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino and under the direct supervision of DOLE XI - Davao del Sur Field Office Provincial Director Leo Ariel A. Pepino. A total of 100 micro-establishment owners participated in the session to gain a deeper understanding of general labor standards and occupational safety regulations, aligning their business operations with national labor policies.

The activity aimed to shift the approach to labor enforcement from strictly punitive measures to developmental support, guiding micro-enterprises toward voluntary compliance. Speakers Labor Employment Officer III Ernie Lou N. Lasco and Labor Employment Officer II Frence Mae G. Babatuan led the discussions, highlighting how adhering to basic labor laws, proper wage guidelines, and worker safety protocols minimizes operational risks, prevents costly labor disputes, and fosters a more productive work environment for local employees.

Participants were guided through an interactive learning process, which included a step-by-step walk-through of the TAV checklist and a self-assessment process. The speakers facilitated an open forum to address common operational challenges faced by small business owners and offered tailored advice on corrective measures. By equipping local entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and continuous technical assistance, DOLE XI - Davao del Sur Field Officr reinforces its commitment to strengthening the local economy, securing workers' welfare, and building a culture of voluntary compliance throughout Davao del Sur.

DAVAO CITY – Sixty-one (61) parents and guardians of profiled child laborers in Davao City received Php 1.22 million worth of livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment XI – Davao City Field Office (DCFO) through its Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) and DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

The intervention supports the directive of DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to families of profiled child laborers as part of the Department’s continuing efforts to prevent and eliminate child labor.

Among the beneficiaries is Merry Jane Martinez, who said the assistance would help her strengthen her family’s source of income and provide for the daily needs and education of the children and grandchildren under her care.

“Daghan kaayong salamat sa DOLE ug sa Child Labor Department sa pagtabang sa mga ginikanan sa mga bata nga na-involve sa child labor. Ang livelihood assistance nga akong nadawat kay dako kaayong tabang sa among pang-adlaw-adlaw nga panginahanglan. Ako ang nagbuhi sa akong mga anak ug mga apo nga gibiyaan sa ilang mga ginikanan,” Martinez said.

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗗𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗫𝗜 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿

In accordance with the directive of DOLE Secretary Atty. Francis Tolentino to strengthen the protection of workers and promote safe, fair, and decent employment, the Department of Labor and Employment XI – Davao del Sur Field Office (DOLE XI-DSFO), under the supervision of Provincial Director Leo Ariel A. Pepino, intensified its routine labor inspections across selected establishments in Digos City and other areas of Davao del Sur on August 18, 19, and 25, 2026. The inspections were undertaken to assess compliance with General Labor Standards (GLS) and Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS), ensuring that workers receive the wages and benefits due them, are protected from workplace hazards, and are provided with employment conditions that respect their rights, safety, and dignity.

The series of inspections was conducted by DOLE XI-DSFO labor inspectors and personnel, including Senior Labor and Employment Officers Celia G. Duo and Garneth S. Lucero, and Labor and Employment Officers III Eizarina Roselle G. Delos Santos and Ariane D. Cometa. Through the review of employment and payroll records, verification of wages and statutory benefits, assessment of workplace safety measures, confidential worker interviews, and direct dialogue with management, the inspection teams were able to provide employers with technical guidance toward sustained compliance. Among the establishments inspected was Sorongon Builders and Engineering Services, contractor for the Construction of the Public Park in the Province of Davao del Sur (Wellness Park) at the Gov. Douglas Ra. Cagas Sports Complex and Business Center in Matti, Digos City. The establishment was found compliant with applicable GLS and OSH requirements, with workers benefiting from employer-paid SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG contributions without deductions for the employees’ share, Service Incentive Leave, appropriate holiday pay, a ₱100 meal allowance, and free lodging for stay-in workers—practices that translate labor compliance into meaningful support for workers and their families.

More than an enforcement activity, routine labor inspection serves as an opportunity to ensure that workers’ voices are heard while helping employers strengthen their workplace practices. Through regular monitoring, constructive dialogue, confidential consultations, and technical assistance, DOLE XI-DSFO continues to promote a culture where compliance goes beyond meeting legal requirements and becomes a shared commitment to worker welfare, business sustainability, and harmonious labor-management relations. By bringing labor protection directly to workplaces across Davao del Sur, DOLE helps create safer and fairer working environments where employees can work with greater security and dignity, while enterprises are empowered to become more compliant, resilient, and productive.

The solemn gathering brought together Davaoeño public servants in prayer and reflection to commemorate this significant milestone. It served as a meaningful reminder of their shared duty to uphold professionalism and reaffirmed the collective dedication of government workers to delivering responsive, ethical, and people-centric public service.
