From August 24–27, 2026, the Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD), together with the CHED Technical Panel, conducted a series of ocular evaluation visits at Brokenshire College Inc. (BCI), Southern Philippines Agri-Business, Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), and Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. (JMCFI) in relation to their applications for Master’s degree programs in Business.

The evaluation team was composed of Dr. Conrado Iñigo, Jr., Dr. Melanie Banzuela, and Dr. Epictetus Patalinghug, Technical Panel Members; Mr. Noel Antonio Paz and Ms. Lucita Mejia from CHED OPSD; and representatives from CHED Regional Office XI.

The series of visits focused on the ocular inspection of facilit
ies and validation of relevant documents, faculty qualifications, resources, and other supporting evidence related to the proposed Master’s degree programs in Business.

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) participated in the Zonal Public Orientation on the Addendum on the Eligibility Requirements for the Deputization of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) cm Lifelong Learning Caravan held on August 26, 2026, in Cebu City.

Representing CHED RO XI were Dr. Maria Christina B. Condez and Engr. Rodrigo S. Pangantihon Jr., together with RQAT members Dr. Ramcis N. Vichez, Dr. Cesar A. Tecson, Dr. Ma. Joy G. Soriano, and Engr. Randy E. Angelia.

HEIs from the Davao Region also participated in the booth exhibition, with the University of Mindanao showcasing its six approved graduate programs for Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) and Brokenshire College presenting its approved microcredential courses.

The activity featured updates on ETEEAP deputization, ETEEAP Online Enlistment System, ODeL Learning Management Systems, industry-aligned microcredentials, and RQAT capacity-building initiatives, further strengthening CHED RO XI’s commitment to quality assurance, accessible learning, flexible education, and industry-responsive lifelong learning opportunities.

Safeguarding academic freedom across higher education demands unwavering vigilance against misinformation and strong institutional accountability.

Supporting the National Action Plan for Unity, Peace, and Development (NAP-UPD 2025–2028), CHED Regional Office XI actively engaged in the Joint Meeting of the Regional Information Officers Network (RION) and the Strategic Communications (StratComm) Cluster of the Joint Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict XI (JRTF-ELCAC XI) on August 26–27, 2026, in Mati City, Davao Oriental. CHED RO XI emphasized its regulatory oversight in balancing student press freedom under RA 7079 while preserving institutional self-management, and CMO No. 17, s. 2003 with institutional safety standards anchored on CMO No. 09, s. 2013 (Enhanced Student Affairs and Services). In addition, CHED RO XI highlighted the strategic role of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) equipping academic communities to counter information disorder and radical grooming.

We commend the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) XI and the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental for leading this impactful two-day regional convergence!

The festivities kicked off with a parade of ASEAN flags led by the Regional Office’s top management, headed by Regional Director Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, followed by individual units representing their assigned member states.

Donning traditional and colorful ASEAN attire, CHED RO XI personnel brought Southeast Asian heritage to life through song, dance, and dramatic cultural performances.

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) Regional Director Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CESO III, inducted the newly elected officers and committee representatives of the Davao Association of Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN) during the DACUN General Assembly 2026 held at Holy Cross of Davao College.

In her inspirational message, Director Casquejo highlighted key deliverables of the CHED A.C.H.I.E.V.E. Agenda 2030 and emphasized the strategic role of DACUN and its committees in supporting the advancement of higher education in the Davao Region. She underscored the importance of collective action and collaboration among higher education institutions in translating the agenda into meaningful initiatives and outcomes.

Among the areas highlighted were Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL), microcredentials, research and innovation, internationalization, student support, and institutional collaboration. Through its various committees, DACUN can serve as a vital platform for sharing good practices, developing collaborative initiatives, and strengthening the capacity of HEIs to respond to emerging needs and opportunities in higher education.

Director Casquejo likewise reaffirmed CHED RO XI’s continuing role as DACUN’s policy guide and developmental partner in advancing quality higher education in the Davao Region. The partnership reflects the shared commitment of CHED and HEIs to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence in support of the A.C.H.I.E.V.E. Agenda 2030.

The induction of the new DACUN officers and committee representatives marks a renewed opportunity for stronger collaboration and collective leadership among higher education institutions. Together, CHED RO XI and DACUN look forward to advancing initiatives that contribute to a more responsive, innovative, inclusive, and globally competitive higher education sector in the region.

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI), in collaboration with the Council of Deans and Program Heads for Criminal Justice Education Region XI (CODPHCJE XI), successfully conducted the 3rd Regional Industry–Government–Academe Forum on the Implementation of Mandatory Drug Testing as a Practicum Requirement for Criminal Justice Education Programs in the Davao Region on August 20, 2026, at The Ritz Hotel at Garden Oases, Davao City.

The forum brought together representatives from all 36 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering Criminal Justice Education programs in the region, along with practicum partners from PNP PRO XI, PNP RFU XI, BJMP XI, BFP XI, DILG XI, PDEA XI, PPA XI, CAAP, LTO XI, DOH XI, maritime agencies, LGUs, private security agencies, DAGCO, and other industry partners. The convergence provided an avenue for stakeholders to strengthen coordination and address emerging concerns affecting the implementation of student practicum.

Dr. Reggie Ledres Latog, President of CODPHCJE XI, welcomed the participants, while Dr. Maria Christina B. Condez, CHED RO XI Adviser to CODPHCJE XI, presented the rationale and objectives of the activity. Dr. Christopher Pio O. Pulido, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED RO XI, delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the importance of strong industry-government-academe partnerships in preparing students for their future professional practice.

The forum provided a meaningful platform for stakeholders to share experiences, discuss practicum-related concerns, and identify practical ways forward, particularly on the proposed implementation of mandatory drug testing prior to student deployment and the harmonization of important provisions in the Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) between HEIs and practicum partners.

CHED RO XI and CODPHCJE XI extend their heartfelt appreciation to the 36 participating HEIs, government agencies, LGUs, industry and practicum partners, resource speakers, guests, and participants for their valuable support and active participation. Through continued collaboration and convergence, stakeholders remain committed to strengthening practicum implementation and providing safer, more meaningful, and quality experiential learning opportunities for Criminal Justice Education students in the Davao Region.
