On the Recent Issuance of the Warrant of Arrest Against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte

As a public servant and as someone who cares deeply about our nation, my heart breaks to see what is happening to our country today. The recent issuance of a warrant of arrest against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte is a clear act of political harassment. It is painful to watch the power of the government being used to break down and silence people instead of helping them.

Nakita na natin ang ganitong pamamaraan noon. Ginawa na nila ito kay PRRD, kay Tatay Digong. Ginamit nila ang kapangyarihan at ang batas para siraan at gipitin siya. At ngayon, nakikita uli natin na ginagawa nila ang kaparehong pang-aapi sa ating Pangalawang Pangulo.

To the Filipino people, I ask you with all sincerity: please wake up and see what the current administration is doing.

This is no longer just about Vice President Sara Duterte. This is about our dignity as a nation and the safety of every single family in our country. We must stand together, look out for one another, and fight for what is right.

ON THE OCCASION OF NATIONAL HEROES DAY
August 31

On National Heroes Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave everything so we could live in freedom. They didn't just fight big battles; they stood up for what was right when times were tough, driven purely by their love for our country and our people.

Sa ating pagtingin sa lagay ng bansa ngayon, hindi natin maikakaila na marami tayong kinahaharap na pagsubok. Mula sa mataas na bilihin at kawalan ng trabaho hanggang sa pang-araw-araw na laban para sa sapat na kita, kaligtasan, at hustisya, marami sa ating mga kababayan ang nahihirapan. Ang mga problema ngayon ay iba man sa mga laban noong araw, ngunit ang ating tungkulin na tumulong ay nananatiling pareho.

Pinatunayan ng ating kasaysayan na ang pagiging bayani ay hindi lamang para sa mga kilalang tao sa libro. Ang ating mga bayani ay nagsimula sa isang simpleng hangarin na gawin ang tama para sa kapwa. Mahalaga ang bawat tulong. Malaki man ito o maliit, ang bawat magandang gawa, pagtatanggol sa katarungan, at paglilingkod ay may malaking ambag sa paghubog ng ating kinabukasan.

In these trying times, we must reject division and choose unity. Let us put our nation first, stand proud as Pro-Filipino, and remain unwavering in our commitment to protect and uplift the Filipino people.

Hindi natin kailangang makipagdigma para maging bayani. Pwede tayong maging bayani sa ating sariling komunidad sa pamamagitan ng pagmamalasakit sa kapitbahay, pagtatanggol sa tama, tapat na paglilingkod, at hindi pagsuko para sa mas maunlad na Pilipinas.

Isang makabuluhang Araw ng mga Bayani sa ating lahat. Para sa Diyos, sa Bayan, at sa Bawat Pilipino.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF CONGRESSMAN OMAR DUTERTE ON THE SHOOTING INCIDENT AT ATENEO DE ZAMBOANGA UNIVERSITY

I express my deepest sorrow and grave outrage over the tragic shooting incident that happened at Ateneo De Zamboanga University today. My heart and prayers go out to the victims, the injured students, their families, and the entire school community affected by this heartbreaking event.

Schools must always be safe places where our youth can study and grow without fear. What happened today is a shocking failure in the security systems that are supposed to protect our children inside and outside school grounds.

This tragedy brings up urgent and painful questions that we must answer right now: How did a student gain access to fi****ms, including a handgun and an assault rifle, and how were these brought inside the campus despite security gates and personnel?

This problem points to a severe gap in campus security and weapon regulations. Keeping high powered fi****ms away from young people is not just the job of school guards. It demands strict accountability from everyone, most especially from parents, who must secure, control, and monitor any weapons at home so children cannot access them under any circumstances.

I strongly call on the administration, local leaders, law enforcement agencies, the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and most especially the President to look into this matter deeply and quickly. We need urgent national direction, executive action, and concrete policies to fix our safety mechanisms across all educational institutions.

This is not just a basic campus issue anymore. It is a rising national concern that threatens the lives and future of our youth. We must create stronger rules, check school security strictly, enforce parental accountability, and take real steps to stop violence in our schools.

Shukran, and may peace, comfort, and justice come quickly to the Ateneo community.
