#𝐈𝐧𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬 | SAAD Phase 2 Data Validation and Evaluation activity roll out in region 11

Today, the Data Validation and Evaluation of Data Collection Process Activity for the SAAD Program Phase 2 in Davao region officially begins. Prior to the field activities this week, NPMO representatives Saturnino R. Palahang Jr., Executive Assistant of the Director/Statistician, and Arjay L. Polistico of the OPBME Unit paid a courtesy visit to RTD for Operations Marie Ann M. Constantino to discuss the objectives, scope, and significance of the activity in preparation for the SAAD Mid-Term Assessment.

Following the courtesy meeting, the NPMO representatives met with the entire DA-SAAD Davao team for a coordination discussion on the implementation of the activity in the coming days. Plans, schedules, and field strategies were aligned to ensure the smooth conduct of profiling, validation, and data-gathering activities across identified beneficiary areas in the region.

As part of the field visit, the team is also set to visit two farmer associations in Davao del Norte to further support on-ground validation and engagement with program beneficiaries.

The DA-SAAD Davao Region PRDC Unit actively joined the Development Communication (DevComm) Training Part 3 held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur from May 26–29, 2026, together with DA and BFAR extension workers from Regions 6, 7, NIR, 10, 11, and 12.

Over the four-day training, participants strengthened their development communication competencies through a series of sessions covering communication planning, pretesting of communication materials, monitoring and evaluation of communication programs, and knowledge management. Workshops were also conducted to further enhance their ability to effectively convey program interventions, present development outcomes, and highlight the lived experiences and stories of farmer and fisherfolk beneficiaries.

This initiative supports the continued strengthening of SAAD’s Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) efforts by equipping implementers with the skills needed to develop clear, relevant, and audience-centered communication materials. Ultimately, it reinforces more effective promotion of program initiatives, services, and success stories within farming and fishing communities.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒: 38 DA and BFAR extension workers join DevComm Part 3 Training in Vigan

The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) officially opened the Development Communication (DevComm) Training Part 3 yesterday, May 26, 2026, bringing together 38 participants from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) across Regions 6, 7, Negros Island Region (NIR), 10, 11, and 12.

The four-day training aims to further strengthen the development communication skills of SAAD implementers and communication personnel, equipping them with strategies and tools to effectively communicate program interventions, farmer and fisherfolk stories, and development outcomes.

The activity commenced with welcome remarks from Ilocos Sur Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) Jomar B. Dayap, who welcomed the participants to the province and encouraged them to maximize the learning opportunities throughout the training.

Meanwhile, SAAD Director Ulysses J. Lustria Jr underscored the vital role of development communication in advancing the goals of the SAAD Program. In his message, he emphasized communicating to stakeholders and policymakers the need for poverty-focused programs such as the SAAD in tandem with DA regular programs, as a two-pronged strategy to achieve sustainable rural development.

Following the opening program, the training commenced with a recap of the lessons and outputs from DevComm Training Parts 1 and 2. The session enabled participants to revisit key concepts and connect previous learnings with the advanced topics to be discussed throughout the week.

The first technical session focused on Communication Planning Review, facilitated by Dr. Chrysl Avegeil N. Vallejo, one of the three resource speakers from the Department of Communication and Development Studies (DCDS) under the College of Arts and Social Sciences of Central Luzon State University (CLSU-Department of Communication and Development Studies - DCDS). During the session, participants took part in a workshop on communication objectives and indicators, where they reviewed and refined their regional communication plans and identified measurable indicators for evaluating communication initiatives.

The second session tackled Pretesting Communication Materials, where participants learned the importance of assessing communication materials before implementation to ensure that messages are clear, relevant, and appropriate for their intended audiences. The discussion highlighted the role of pretesting in improving the effectiveness of communication campaigns and information materials.

To reinforce the concepts discussed, participants also engaged in a workshop on Developing Pretesting Instruments, allowing them to create tools that can be used to gather feedback from target audiences and evaluate communication materials prior to dissemination.

The succeeding sessions in the coming days will be facilitated by the two other resource speakers, Dr. Marife Ramos de Torres-Pascual and Mr. Christopher John C. Gonzales who will discuss additional topics designed to enhance participants’ competencies in development communication planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Through the training, DA-SAAD continues to strengthen the communication capacities of its personnel and partners, ensuring that stories of transformation and development from farming and fishing communities are effectively documented and communicated to stakeholders and the public.

Sa ilalim ng Cacao Production Project, natutunan ng samahan kung paano mapataas ang halaga ng kanilang ani sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ng tablea na maaaring gamitin sa tradisyunal na tsokolate at iba pang pagkain. Kasabay nito, tumanggap din ang grupo ng Goat Production Project bilang dagdag na pagkakakitaan para sa kanilang mga miyembro.

Available ang kanilang tablea sa iba’t ibang sukat at presyo: 50 grams sa halagang Php45, 75 grams sa Php65, 150 grams sa Php130, 200 grams sa Ph170, 400 grams sa Php340, at 1 kilo sa halagang Php850.
Sa kasalukuyan, wala pang bentahan ng kambing dahil patuloy pa ang pagpapalaki at pagpaparami ng kanilang alagang hayop.

Ibinebenta ang kanilang mga produkto sa pamamagitan ng consignment basis, online selling, at display sa mga tanggapan ng DA-SAAD at DA-AMAD upang mas mapalawak pa ang kanilang merkado at mas maraming mamimili ang makatikim ng kanilang lokal na produkto.

| In line with its continuing efforts to strengthen farmer associations, the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Davao Region conducted a Capacity Development Training on Strengthening Teams and Building Networks for the Pantuyan Mandaya Farmers Association and Pichon Farmers Livelihood Association in Caraga, Davao Oriental.

The activity equipped farmer-members with valuable insights on collaboration, leadership, and partnership-building, helping empower their associations toward more organized, productive, and sustainable community-based agricultural initiatives.
