NATIONAL HEROES DAY

On 31 August 2026, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao led by Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh attended the commemoration of National Heroes Day held at Osmeña Park, Davao City.

The ceremony was graced by Hon. Sebastian Z. Duterte, City Mayor of Davao duly represented by Hon. Rodrigo Duterte II, Vice Mayor of Davao City with Commodore Irineo D. Battung, Commander of the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, serving as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. The ceremony was also attended by members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, representatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other distinguished guests and stakeholders.

As part of the commemoration, a 21-gun salute and a wreath-laying ceremony were conducted by Task Force Davao in honour of the nation's heroes.

The solemn occasion served as a meaningful tribute to the bravery, patriotism and sacrifices of Filipino heroes, both known and unknown, who dedicated their lives to the nation’s freedom, independence and sovereignty.

DURIAN FESTIVAL 2026

Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh participated in the Durian Festival 2026 held at the Trade and Exhibition Center, Rotary Park, Tagum City on 30 August 2026.

The festival commenced with a vibrant parade followed by the ceremonial cutting of the durian, where guests and visitors had the opportunity to savour and appreciate the diverse varieties of durian cultivated in Tagum City.

The Durian Festival celebrates Tagum City’s rich agricultural heritage, cultural vibrancy and growing durian industry. Through a series of activities, exhibitions and competitions, the festival brings together local communities, farmers, entrepreneurs, cultural advocates and visitors to celebrate durian as an important agricultural product and a significant part of the region’s identity and economic landscape.

20TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE EASTERN MINDANAO COMMAND

On 28 August 2026, Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh attended the 20th Founding Anniversary Celebration of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) held at the Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Davao City.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, General Antonio G. Nafarrete PA as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

Bearing the theme, “EMC@20: Honoring Two Decades of Service and Partnership, Safeguarding the Eastern Mindanao Frontier,” the celebration highlighted two decades of dedicated service, operational excellence and steadfast partnership with government agencies, local government units, communities and other stakeholders in promoting peace, security and stability in Eastern Mindanao.

The occasion also underscored the importance of sustained cooperation and strong partnerships among institutions and stakeholders in addressing shared security challenges and fostering a safer, more peaceful and resilient region.

ASEAN FLAG RAISING CEREMONY

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs – Mindanao and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao successfully organised an ASEAN Flag Raising Ceremony in celebration of the 59th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the House of Indonesia, Davao City on 11 August 2026.

During the ceremony, Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh delivered remarks emphasising the importance of upholding the ASEAN spirit and further strengthening friendship, cooperation and solidarity among ASEAN Member States.

Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs – Mindanao, Madam Maria Agnes M. Cervantes expressed her appreciation for the organisation of the ceremony and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and engagement among the diplomatic corps in Davao City.

Also in attendance was Ms. Rizalina Cordenillo of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), representing the Office of the City Mayor of Davao together with officials and representatives from various government agencies, institutions and organisations.

The celebration of the 59th ASEAN Day served as a meaningful platform to reaffirm the shared commitment of ASEAN Member States to strengthening regional friendship, cooperation and solidarity. It also underscored the importance of promoting greater collaboration in various areas, including trade and investment, education, socio-cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connectivity, particularly in Mindanao.

COLLABORATIVE PHARMCHEM EXCHANGE PROGRAM (CPEP) 2026 CYCLE 2

On 10 August 2026, Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal bin Ahmad Salleh was pleased to welcome a delegation comprising representatives from several higher education institutions across Asia together with the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), Davao City at the Chancery Office.

The delegation comprised participants from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Management & Science University (MSU) from Malaysia; Burapha University and Chulalongkorn University from Thailand; Southeast University from China and Widya Mandala Catholic University from Indonesia in collaboration with UIC.

The delegation was participating in the Collaborative PharmChem Exchange Program (CPEP) 2026 Cycle 2, an international inbound and outbound mobility initiative organised by UIC. The programme brings together partner universities from across Asia to experience UIC’s academic excellence in the fields of pharmacy and chemistry, while promoting academic exchange, multidisciplinary collaboration and multicultural engagement.

Held from 09 to 15 August 2026, the programme also coincided with the celebration of the Kadayawan Festival, one of the Philippines’ most anticipated cultural celebrations. This provided the participants with a valuable opportunity to complement their academic engagement with cultural immersion and gain a deeper appreciation of Davao City’s rich cultural heritage.

OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 12TH DURIAN FESTIVAL

On 07 August 2026, Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh attended the Opening Ceremony of the 12th Durian Festival held at the SM Lanang North Wing Grounds, Davao City.

Held in conjunction with the vibrant Kadayawan Festival, the Durian Festival is spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture – Davao Region, through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), in collaboration with the Durian Industry Association of Davao City (DIADC), the Bureau of Plant Industry, Davao City’s Local Government Units (LGUs) and various stakeholders from the fruit industry.

Running from 07 August to 11 September 2026, the festival celebrates Davao’s rich durian industry and showcases the region’s finest local durian varieties. Visitors are invited to savour the distinctive and bold flavours of locally grown durians while experiencing the vibrant agricultural heritage and culture of Davao City.

Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh warmly welcomed the courtesy visit by the National Police College at the Chancery Office on 05 August 2026.

The National Police College, under the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) is currently conducting the Public Safety Officers Senior Executive Course (PSOSEC) for Police Lieutenant Colonels and Jail Superintendents at the National Police College Davao.

The visit formed part of the “Diplomacy and International Relations for Public Safety” component of the PSOSEC. It is aligned with the PPSC Plan 2030, which seeks to strengthen international linkages and provide opportunities for participants to gain insights into international relations and best practices, particularly in addressing crises and security-related challenges.

The delegation was led by Dr. Jinnifer D. Arroyo, MPSA, Officer-in-Charge and comprised 37 student officers and two personnel from the National Police College.

The engagement provided the student officers with valuable insights into diplomacy, international relations and regional cooperation, while highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships in strengthening public safety and security.

The visit also contributed to the course’s objective of developing globally oriented, collaborative and forward-looking public safety leaders, equipped with a broader understanding of international cooperation and its role in addressing emerging security challenges.
