Statement on the Possible Subpoena Against the Husband of Vice President Sara Duterte
The move to issue a subpoena against the husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, Atty. Manases Carpio, raises serious concerns that this may be nothing more than political persecution disguised as an investigation.
Instead of focusing their energy on targeting the family members of political figures, our lawmakers should concentrate on the real issues affecting the Filipino people — the alleged misuse and disappearance of public funds.
The Filipino people deserve answers on where our hard-earned tax money has gone, particularly on controversies that have already captured public attention, such as the “maleta” money issues, the ₱18 billion PhilHealth fund controversy, and other allegations of corruption involving government funds. These are matters that directly affect the welfare of millions of Filipinos.
When investigations appear selective and politically motivated, they only erode public trust in government institutions. The public expects Congress to exercise its oversight powers fairly, transparently, and without political bias.
If accountability is truly the objective, then let us investigate all questionable transactions involving public funds, regardless of who may be involved.
The Filipino people are tired of diversionary tactics and political theatrics. What they want is truth, transparency, and justice for the misuse of taxpayers’ money.
Our leaders must remember: public office is a public trust, and that trust is upheld not by persecuting political opponents, but by holding all those who misuse public funds accountable.
The real issue is not political families - the real issue is where the people’s money went.
