On August 29, ConGen ONO attended 3rd JKA Philippines International Gasshuku and Tournament 2026 held in Davao City.

Hosted by the Japan Karate Association Philippines, the competition was participated by Karatekas from the various Karate clubs all over the Philippines as well delegates from JKA Mongolia, and Indonesia. The national try out of the participants for the JKA World Cup 2027 in Takasaki, Japan was also held during the event.

On August 27, members of the Buddhist religious group, Rissho Kosei-Kai International-Japan, visited the Consulate General of Japan in Davao during their familiarization tour of Davao City.

ConGen ONO warmly welcomed the group and gave a briefing on the relationship and historical developments between Japan and the Philippines, the strong ties between Japan and the Mindanao region as well as the progress of the peace process in the island.

𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻'𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀

Yesterday, September 1, was Disaster Prevention Day or Bōsai no Hi (防災の日) in Japan. This day commemorates the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake and is a day to remind all of us to be prepared for any contingency.

As one of the countries vulnerable to natural disasters, particularly earthquakes, Japan has continuously strengthened its disaster preparedness efforts. From emphasizing community awareness, to resilient infrastructure, and advanced emergency response, Japan has developed effective strategies to reduce risks and protect lives.

In celebration of National Heroes Day, Consul General ONO participated in the wreath-laying ceremony held at Osmeña Park, Davao City on August 31.

Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo "Rigo" Duterte II led the ceremony which was attended by police and military officials, representatives from other government agencies and members of the Consular Corps in Davao. Commodore Irineo Battung, Commander of the Naval Forces East Mindanao (NFEM) was the guest speaker.

On August 28, Consul General ONO attended the commemoration of the 20th Founding Anniversary of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) held in Panacan, Davao City.

With the theme: “EMC@20: Honoring Two Decades of Service and Partnership, Safeguarding the Eastern Mindanao Frontier,” the occasion was led Lt. General Adonis Ariel Orio, EastMinCom Command. General Antonio Nafarrete, Chief of Staff of the AFP was the guest of honor and speaker
