Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental โ The Department of Health in collaboration with the Local Government of Zamboanguita through the Municipal Nutrition Committee recognized the winners of the recently concluded Gulayan sa Barangay contest. The awarding ceremony was held on 28 October 2024 at the 2nd Floor of Zamboanguita Public Market.
The event, a key initiative under the DOH Playbook and part of the departmentโs 8-point agenda, was spearheaded by the Human Resources for Health (HRH) of the municipality. The ceremony highlighted the importance of community gardens in promoting food security, nutrition, and sustainable practices. The event was graced by barangay captains, midwives, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and HRHs themselves whose tireless efforts have been pivotal in advancing this initiative.
Barangay Malongcay-Diot emerged as the champion for this yearโs competition, showcasing outstanding practices in sustainable gardening. Barangay Nasig-id and Barangay Calango secured second and third places, respectively, for their commendable contributions to the program.
The success of the Gulayan sa Barangay program exemplifies how collaboration and shared dedication can bring about meaningful change.
