In line with the nationwide celebration of Nutrition Month 2025 and anchored on the theme, “Food at Nutrition Security Maging Priority! Pagkaing Sapat Karapatan Natin!”, the Local Government Unit of Daram through the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC), in coordination with partner agencies, conducted a culmination activity on July 30, 2025 at the Cultural Center, Poblacion 1, Daram, Samar. The event emphasized the importance of ensuring food and nutrition security as a fundamental right of every Filipino.
The celebration also coincided with the observance of National Disability Rights Week, led by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), reinforcing the message of inclusion and equitable access to health and nutrition services for persons with disabilities.
Objectives:
- To raise awareness on the importance of food and nutrition security.
- To promote healthy eating practices using local and sustainable ingredients.
- To engage various sectors of the community, including children and families, in advocacy activities.
- To celebrate the rights of persons with disabilities and promote inclusive nutrition efforts.
Activities and Highlights
1. Cooking Contest
Participants: 5 mothers of elementary students from Daram I Central Elementary School.
Objective: Showcase nutritious meal preparations using dehydrated vegetables as the main ingredient.
Each participant presented creative and healthy recipes, emphasizing the utility of preserved food sources in enhancing household food security.
Winners were judged based on nutritional value, creativity, taste, and presentation.
2. Poster Making Contest
Participants: Students from Grades 1 to 6.
The young participants illustrated the theme through vibrant and meaningful posters that highlighted the importance of accessible and adequate food for all.
Entries were evaluated based on relevance to the theme, originality, and artistic impact.
3. Quiz Bee
Participants: 6 students from Grades 4 to 6.
The quiz focused on general nutrition knowledge, food safety, and the rights related to food security.
This activity fostered learning and encouraged healthy competition among students.
4. Distribution of 2nd ration of rice to beneficiaries of Kabisig ng Kalahi and Okada Foundation Food Share Program.
The Food Share Program is a community-based initiative designed to reduce food insecurity in marginalized families.
The activity was attended by LGU officials, school personnel, students, parents, and community members.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Miss Alma L. Llanita led a segment highlighting the rights of persons with disabilities and their inclusion in nutrition and health programs.
The culmination of Nutrition Month 2025 in Daram was a resounding success, marked by active community participation and meaningful engagements. The event successfully reinforced the call for prioritizing food and nutrition security, especially for vulnerable groups including children and persons with disabilities.
