A thorough review of campus security, infrastructure, and student mental health marked todayโs activities as Mayor Evelyn โBelenโ T. Uy conducted surprise inspections across various educational institutions.
During her tour, Mayor Uy emphasized that safeguarding student mental well-being requires a collaborative, tri-focal approach involving parents, educational institutions, and the local community.
The tour began with a visit to the Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Main Campus, where University President Dr. Maria Rio Abdon-Naguit welcomed the local chief executive. Mayor Uy reviewed campus plans to evaluate overall safety and security protocols. During their dialogue, the mayor highlighted the importance of character building, urging the institution to actively strengthen values and religious education to help students navigate modern-day challenges.
The mayor next visited the Rizal Memorial Institute of Dapitan City, Inc. (RMIDCI), meeting with School Principal Angelita V. Elumba. Discussions centered on immediate safety recommendations and the necessity of intensifying campus security. Mayor Uy evaluated existing safety measures to ensure a secure learning environmentโa gesture warmly received by the students, who expressed delight at her presence.
The final stop of the day was at the Dapitan City National High School (DCNHS), where the faculty and administrative staff welcomed the mayor. Transitioning from student welfare to infrastructure development, Mayor Uy led an inspection of potential sites for upcoming school projects aimed at boosting the campus's capacity and educational facilities.
