A multi-awarded poet and cultural leader, Dr. Ortega is the long-time Director of the Iligan National Writers Workshop and Founding Director of the Mindanao Creative and Cultural Workers Group, Inc. She earned her Doctor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (Fiction) with high distinction from De La Salle University–Manila and has published numerous anthologies and poetry collections, many of which have won National Book Awards. Recognized internationally, she has lectured across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East and continues to shape the literary and cultural landscape of Mindanao and the Philippines.

Prof. Guinto holds double bachelor’s degrees in Information Technology and English, a master’s degree in English Language Studies, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at UP Diliman. A former Director of the MSU-IIT Center for Culture and Arts, he spearheaded the establishment of the Academy of the Arts that continues to nurture training and workshops for young creatives.

He has been a fellow in national and international writers and research workshops and has presented his research in prestigious conferences worldwide. His scholarly works on literature, performance, and cultural studies are published in respected journals, including the Philippine Humanities Review and Tomas: The Journal of the UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies.

A Fulbright scholar with a doctorate in Film and Media from the University of Oregon, Prof. Garcia has taught in premier institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and the UP Film Institute. His award-winning research and creative works span postcolonial theory, Global South cinemas, and indigeneity, with publications both in the Philippines and abroad. Beyond scholarship, he is also a playwright, poet, actor, and dramaturg whose contributions enrich both the academe and the arts.

RIZAL'S ARRIVAL IN DAPITAN

On 17 July 1892, Jose Rizal arrived in Dapitan, commencing his life in exile. From the beach where he disembarked, he was escorted by Captain Delgras together with three artillery men towards the town plaza where the Casa Real or the Government House of the Politico - Military District of Dapitan was located.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Basabalak Kanunay invite you to listen to Poetry in the Time of the Pandemic: A Poetry Podcast with Learning Modules, a Bisaya podcast featuring some of the best works from established, contemporary, and emerging Bisaya poets. Basabalak Kanunay is the first podcast dedicated to contemporary Cebuano-Bisaya poetry, a place where you can listen to Cebuano poems in the 21st century. The project aims to showcase thirty episodes of Binisaya poems made accessible online for students and teachers of contemporary Cebuano literature.

Participants who get to listen to the podcast and answer a related survey will be given a certificate of participation. Please note that the period for access and/or survey completion is only until September 30, 2022.
