๐OFFICIAL STATEMENT
We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the constructive feedback weโve received regarding the recent alumni homecoming. We are grateful for the following:
The active participation and engagement of our alumni, which made the event memorable.
The success of the program, as it allowed us to reconnect with former students and foster stronger community ties.
The generous donations, pledges, and support we received, both locally and abroad, which helped make the event a success.
However, we also recognize concerns raised about the event, specifically regarding the concept of "socials" and the perception of objectification. Objectification, as defined by Oxford, refers to the act of treating a person as an object or thing, rather than as a person with dignity and autonomy. With this understanding, we would like to clarify that there was no intention for any part of the event to foster objectification in any form. The program was carefully designed with respect for all attendees, and we are pleased to know that many enjoyed the event and felt it was a positive experience.
If the term "socials" or certain activities are being perceived as outdated or as objectification, we would like to emphasize that the primary objective of the event was to raise funds for the school, nothing more. It was not intended to degrade or objectify anyone in any way. Additionally, such socials are a common and accepted practice in alumni events in various institutions, and we do not believe they are outdated.
Rest assured, all funds raised from this event will be used for the continued benefit of the school, ensuring that future events can be even better. If, however, the "social" aspect is not in line with the preferences of some, we will certainly consider this feedback as a learning opportunity for future gatherings.
Thank you once again for your valuable input. We look forward to improving and making each event more aligned with the values and expectations of our community.
