The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) is intensifying public health surveillance efforts through retrospective records review, case verification, and ongoing monitoring.

The Ministry through its local ESUs continues to implement control and preventive measures against the global threat of mpox all over the region. One of its key strategies is the improved capacity of the RESU-BARMM through the different Provincial and City ESUs to detect cases at earliest possible time and render case management as required. The Provincial ESU of Tawi Tawi has acted upon this call and conducted series of active case finding, mpox surveillance orientations and retrospective records review in different health facilities and communities of the province. Kudos Team! ❀️πŸ’ͺ

Public Health Surveillance pertains to the capacity of the health system to detect potential outbreaks of diseases before it becomes widespread and cause significant public health problems.

It is essential for all, especially for local LGUs to determine signs of possible infectious disease/s to provide timely management and control.

Thus, if any of the following case definitions are observed, please seek medical advise / consultation in nearest Rural Health Units (RHUs).

Remember, early capture equates early response. ❀️

Indeed, there is no one-man team in public health surveillance. Everyone's effort in this activity was a necessary complement to its success.

Pursuant to its mandate to improve local health surveillance, the RESU-BARMM through the support of Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and Epidemiology Bureau (DOH-EB) conducted its first ever CPD ACCREDITED Training at Zamboanga City.

The Event-based Surveillance and Response (ESR) Training and Workshop aimed to capacitate Public Health Surveillance Officers at Provincial, City, Municipal and Hospital Epidemiology and Surveillance Units (ESUs) on ESR as a strategy to achieve an organized approach aimed to rapidly capture and assess information about potential public health events, to complement traditional surveillance systems and enable early detection of health threats.

The activity was successfully conducted on April 7 to 10, 2025 at Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City.
