LOOK: The Office of the Sergeant at Arms received the Most Enhanced Internal Control Development Award at the BAICS Culmination Awarding Ceremony on July 17, 2024, at the Grand Summit Hotel, General Santos City. Sergeant Abdulgani B. Caludtiag and Security Support Section staff Mahadudin Sumpingan attended the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the office.

Chief Josefa P. Macasayon of the Internal Control Division of the Office of the Parliament Speaker presented this recognition. It acknowledges the Office of the Sergeant at Arms' outstanding improvements in internal control measures.

Ramadan 24, 1445 AH | April 3, 2024

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) successfully organized an Islamic Symposium and Iftar to deepen spiritual understanding, promote unity, and provide a space for reflection among its staff.

SES Chief, Amiruddin I. Gani emphasized the importance of discipline and internalizing Islamic teachings. BTA's Secretay General, Professor Raby B. Angkal delivered a message centered on Sab'r (patience), its role in Islamic life, and the importance of obeying Allah above all else. OSAA's Sergeant-at-Arms, Abdulgani Caludtiag provided inspirational words, highlighting the multiplied rewards and advantages of enriching one's Islamic faith during Ramadan.

Sheik Saguir Salendab gave the keynote address (muhadarah), emphasizing unity within the Muslim community, the importance of letting go of grudges, and maintaining the fear of Allah in all actions. SES Chief, Sheittie Jane Tulon-Ugokan, provided her final thoughts.

The event was well-received by OSAA staff, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to deepen their spiritual knowledge and connection during the holy month. The symposium served as a reminder of the importance of faith, discipline, and community within the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms.

On March 11, 2024, under the supervision of the Sergeant at Arms, a monthly staff meeting was conducted. The meeting focused on planning activities for the current and upcoming months. To address issues and concerns, several key decisions were made. Key among them was the staff's agreement to streamline document filing procedures for the Sergeant at Arms.

Additionally, the staff will adopt a file-sharing platform for enhanced document monitoring (receipt, action, and release). Other meeting topics included a review of safety protocols, a discussion of targets and accomplishments, and addressing workplace issues raised by OSAA staff.

The Bangsamoro Transitional Authority's (BTA) Office of the Sergeant at Arms (OSAA-BTA), through its Security Support Service (SSS), recently conducted a two-day orientation seminar on Process Service and Legislative Paging. The seminar, held at the Acacia Hotel in Davao City on February 23-24, 2024, was designed for 24 newly hired Legislative Pages (LPs). Seven resource speakers from the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Philippine Senate were invited, including Lieutenant General Roberto Ancan, Director Anthony Samonte, Ma. Ana Armenia, Ma. Eveangeline Ahorro, Lloyd R. Zurbito, Eriberto Francisco, Ariel Ahorro and Maclyndon Lao.

The orientation seminar equipped the newly hired LPs with essential knowledge and skills to fulfill their roles effectively. The first day of orientation began with an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of Legislative Pages (LPs) within the BARMM, including insights into the BARMM's history from Sergeant at Arms Abdulgani Caludtiag (OSAA-BTA). Chief Security Support Director Anthony Samonte (OSAA Senate), along with five other resource speakers from the OSAA Senate outlined the seminar's objectives, prompting active LP participation in discussions and Q&A sessions on topics like the history of pages, organizational structures, and standard operating procedures.

The second day focused on practical skills, with Lieutenant General Roberto Ancan (Sergeant at Arms, Philippine Senate) emphasizing best practices in subpoena service, session etiquette, and the buddy system. The seminar concluded with an inspiring message from Sergeant at Arms Abdulgani Caludtiag, highlighting integrity and service to the BARMM parliament.
