From Notable Muslim page.

Some people build institutions. ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜‚ ๐—”๐—น๐—ถ ๐—•. ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ธ๐—ถ built several of them, one after another, across five decades of unbroken public service.

He started in the 1970s with the ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—”๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† (๐—ฆ๐—ฃ๐——๐—”), working as a project and department manager for 17 years, designing economic programs for communities in the heart of conflict-torn Mindanao. Not a glamorous entry point, but a grounding one. He learned the region from the ground up: its infrastructure gaps, its agricultural realities, its people displaced by a war that hadn't yet found its resolution.

From there he moved into local politics as a ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—•๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ of the 2nd District of Maguindanao, a decade of grassroots legislation, land disputes, and provincial governance during the early years of the ARMM.

Then came Al-Amanah. As ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—–๐—˜๐—ข ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—น-๐—”๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ต ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—œ๐˜€๐—น๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ธ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€, the country's first and only Islamic bank, Datu Ali led efforts to bring Sharia-compliant financial services to a Muslim population that conventional banking had largely left behind. That assignment required more than management skill. It required fluency in Islamic finance, in fiqh al-muamalat, and in the trust of a community that had every reason to be skeptical of state institutions.

He then stepped into the national arena as ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ข๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐— ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ ๐—”๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€ (๐—ข๐— ๐—”), the predecessor of today's National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. He was, in effect, Manila's principal point of contact with the Filipino Muslim community: coordinating the Hajj, overseeing cultural preservation, and pushing for economic programs that reached Muslim communities across the country.

And in January 2020, President Duterte appointed him the ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿต๐˜๐—ต ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—”๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† (๐—•๐—ง๐—”), the historic interim parliament created under the Bangsamoro Organic Law. In the BTA, he didn't coast on his reputation. He authored the ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ด๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ต ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ถ๐—น๐—น, one of the most forward-looking pieces of legislation in the region's history, balancing the ecological integrity of the massive wetland with the rights of local communities over its vast natural gas reserves. He drafted the law protecting Internally Displaced Persons within BARMM. He co-authored both the ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—š๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ and the ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—˜๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ, the foundational laws that will govern how the region functions and how it elects its leaders.

Behind the scenes, he also served on the Government Technical Working Group on Resources, helping hammer out the wealth-sharing provisions between the national government and the M**F that made the Bangsamoro Organic Law possible.

The Sangki family name is one of the most consequential in central Mindanao. Three generations, two provinces, one unbroken line of public stewardship.

Datu Ali B. Sangki is a Maguindanaon. A traditional datu. A banker. A legislator. A peace-process architect. A patriarch. And across all of it, a builder of the Bangsamoro.
