In a strong display of solidarity and communal unity, Vigan City launched its rescue-buy initiative dubbed Project Unified Buying and Bayanihan Operation (UBBO) in partnership with the Atok Good Agricultural Practitioners Association (AGPA) to support struggling vegetable farmers in Atok.
The program, inspired by the Kankana-ey term โUb-ubbo,โ which means bayanihan or communal unity, was created to help farmers affected by low vegetable prices and market instability. Through the initiative, at least 30 farmers from Atok were assisted by providing them with a stable market for their produce amid the ongoing agricultural crisis.
Aside from helping farmers, the UBBO program also benefited residents of Vigan City by supplying fresh and affordable vegetables at a time when many households are feeling the effects of rising commodity prices caused by fluctuating fuel costs.
City officials said the initiative reflects the importance of cooperation between communities in addressing both agricultural and economic challenges, while promoting support for local farmers and ensuring food accessibility for consumers.
