In the heart of Plaza Independencia, beside Fort San Pedro, where the rich history of Cebu lives on, another beautiful history was being written, a special story that would live on for generations.
Colin’s Playground.
Colin Beauné Hughes spent some of his happiest childhood years in Cebu, from 2004 to 2007. During those years, Cebu became part of Colin’s story. And in a beautiful way, his story became a part of Cebu’s.
As Colin’s Playground reopened and began a new chapter, a new generation of children are given the opportunity to experience that same joy in a place created in his name.
More than a playground, it was a place where memories were made, laughter was shared and Colin’s love for Cebu could continue to be remembered in the simplest and most beautiful way.
Together with Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, Councilor Harry Eran, the Parks and Playgrounds Office, headed by Augustus Jolly Pe III, and our valued partners, Vicsal Holdings Inc. Executive Director Ana Marie Into, Virginia Food President Felix Tiukinhoy, and Global Holdings Cebu Vice President Mulric Sarmiento, we celebrated the relaunch and reopening of Colin’s Playground and the shared vision that made this new chapter possible.
The Cebu City Government is deeply grateful to the Vicsal Foundation and to everyone who shared in this vision and helped bring Colin’s Playground to life once again.
That was what made this playground so special. It was not just about remembering Colin. It was about keeping the joy he found in Cebu alive and allowing that joy to be discovered by a new generation.
May this place always be filled with the sound Colin knew so well, children laughing, playing, and simply being happy.
