STAND or the Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy is the oldest existing progressive alliance of student individuals and student organizations in the University of San Carlos today. It genuinely and firmly protects and promotes the students and people’s democratic rights and welfare and create solidarity among other sectors of the society.

A report from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to the Supreme Student Council (SSC) announcing there will be a possibility of postponing this year's Student Council Elections (SCE) due to the SSC’s registration status. The COMELEC and SSC held an emergency meeting last March 20, 2026.

On February 4, 2026, a correspondence between the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Atty. Largo and COMELEC Chairperson Yammani Pabillore stated possible delay of SCE due to the unregistered status of the SSC, directly violating the inherent democratic rights of the student body.

STAND USC condemns this attack and recognizes the broader pattern of neoliberal education system wherein it constantly undermines and violates the fundamental rights of the studentry. The party encourages the Carolinian community to be wary and condemn these neoliberal offensives amidst the current economic and political crisis brought upon by international tensions.

This is a developing story. Carolinians, be vigilant about the railroading attacks on our democratic rights.

CEBU TRANSPORT STRIKE UPDATE 🚨

PISTON Cebu Tintay, Mandaue, Lapu-lapu, Mabolo chapters are now marching towards the centralized program in P.Del Rosario, Cebu City to campaign for the following calls:

1.) END THE US-WAR AGGRESSION AGAINST IRAN
2.) INCREASE BASIC SALARY OF WORKERS AND PROFIT OF JEEPNEY DRIVERS
3.) REGULATE THE PRICE OF OIL AND OTHER BASIC SERVICES
4.) JUNK OIL PRICE HIKE, 12% VAT INCREASE, AND EXCISE TAX
5.) FINANCIAL AID FOR ALL WHO ARE AFFECTED OF THI ECONOMIC CRISIS
6.) JUNK OIL DEREGULATION LAW AND OTHER NEOLIBERAL POLICIES

This strike aims to call for increase in salary and prices of goods to match economic capacity of our Filipino people. Laban sa driver, laban pod sa komyuter!

FASCIST GOONS ON-SITE!!! 😡

In the on-going National Transportation Strike held in the Talamban Choke-point, 2 Police cars, 5 police officers and 2 SWAT officers have stationed across and other surrounding areas. Additionally, PETRON Nasipit, Talamban branch has also attempted to disrupt the strike, threatening the rights of drivers to express their dissent on the oil prices hike. This peaceful mobilization has no need for multiple police officers as they struggling Filipinos wanting for their demands to be heard and supported. Yet, the first response of the state is to deploy multiple goons when the obvious terrorist is this government putting its people into hunger and the US Imperialist bombing countries left and right.

We assert that police visibility and disruption of the strike should not become a hindrance in conducting the strike and the state should prioritize the safety of its drivers and service workers.

The increase in oil prices has caused a great economic crisis amongst public transportation drivers and local citizens, worsened by the Oil Deregulation Law and excise taxes. This issue serves as a threat to their livelihood and capacity to provide for their families—causing insecurity in basic needs. As commuters and students, we must stand in solidarity and show our utmost support for our jeepney drivers and operators in calling and demanding the implementation of these calls:

In the worsening oil crisis due to the war being waged by the imperialist US, our best contribution as commuters and citizens, is to play an active role in the present struggle. This is an issue not only for the jeepney drivers and operators, but for all of us, who, everyday, must face the rising commute prices and that of all other expenses.

While oil prices have risen from P50, to now being P90 to P100 for gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, the big capitalists are using the crisis to gain even more money for themselves. In the corruption being sponsored by the government, the masses continue to bear the burden of VAT, excise tax, and the Oil Deregulation Law, which only serves to worsen our current state.

For this, we must be united in our call for the removal of the VAT and excise tax on oil, for the rollback of prices, and finally, to trash the Oil Deregulation Law; we also call for the nationalization of the oil industry so that it may serve the masses, and not the big foreigners nor the bureaucrat-capitalists, while we are being denied higher wages and lower prices for basic commodities. Lastly, we call for an end to the US war aggression which has cause the crisis we are facing right now.

Commuters, let us join the strike! Show the power of the commuter and jeepney driver united against the price hike, against the imperialist involvement, and for the genuine good of the masses!

A Donation Drive for the March 19-20, Nationwide Transport Strike

The relentless surge in fuel prices, worsened by the Oil Deregulation Law and regressive taxes, has reached a critical point. For the drivers and operators who survive on a constant daily income, these hikes are not just matters that they could just ignore, they are a direct threat to their livelihood and their ability to provide for their families.

We recognize that participating in this protest is a massive sacrifice for our drivers who are risking themselves from earning their daily income. In an industry where earnings are already depleted by high pump prices, choosing to strike is a courageous act of protest for the benefit of the riding public and the Filipino masses.

To support the participating drivers, we are launching this donation drive where the money received will be given to the participating drivers who will have zero earnings during these two days of protest.

Drivers, who keep our communities moving every day, are already struggling to make ends meet. Many earn barely enough after covering fuel and maintenance, and the constant rise in oil prices worsens an already impossible situation.

In response, they have announced a strike on March 19, risking their daily income to demand urgent and just solutions. Us students and commuters alike also bear the cost of a broken, profit-driven transport system. Their fight is ours too.

Yesterday, Carolinians conducted a historic snake rally against the 6.7% tuition fee increase. The snake rally was conducted because of the USC administration’s continued push for a 6.7% tuition fee increase, in spite of widespread student opposition as seen in student surveys, consultations, and previous protests. Should the tuition fee increase push through, it will further burden students and families who already struggle to pay USC’s high tuition rates.

Yet instead of listening to Carolinians’ legitimate concerns, the administration responded with intimidation tactics. The Student Disciplinary Officer repeatedly took photos of protesters, while security personnel were ordered to stop the snake rally.

We vehemently condemn such violations of Carolinians’ right to organize. We condemn the repressive stipulations in the 2023 Student Manual that prevent rallies and student demonstrations “without permit”. We assert the correctness of collective and militant student action, especially against a profit-driven and repressive system that inherently refuses to act in students’ best interests.
