The DSWD Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II joined the observance of White Cane Safety Day, celebrated every August 1 pursuant to Republic Act No. 6759.

The celebration began with a White Cane Safety Orientation on July 31, 2026, at the AVRC II Multipurpose Hall, followed by an outdoor learning activity on August 3, 2026.

As part of the observance, trainees visited the Museo Basílica del Santo Niño and the National Museum of the Philippines–Cebu, where they explored the rich history and culture of Cebu. They also had the opportunity to attend Holy Mass at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

Throughout the learning visit, AVRC II staff provided guidance by describing the surroundings and assisting trainees, particularly those with visual disabilities. The activity also allowed trainees to practice proper white cane techniques, promoting safe mobility, confidence, and independence. 🧑‍🦯✨

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊| In partnership with BCPD and through the support of Reledev Australia, the AVRC II trainees and staff under the Bread and Pastry Production (BPP) Program successfully completed their TESDA NC II Assessment held on July 30–31, 2026. 👩‍🍳🥐

All 16 participants passed the assessment, achieving a 100% passing rate, after completing the two-day competency assessment.

LOOK | In celebration of Nutrition Month 2026 with the theme, “Sa PPAN, Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat. Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!”, the DSWD Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II conducted a series of fun and educational activities on July 30, 2026 to promote healthy eating and nutrition awareness among its trainees. 🥗🍄

The morning session featured a lecture on Go, Grow, and Glow Foods, followed by an interactive Nutrition Quiz Bee that tested the participants’ knowledge of proper nutrition and healthy food choices.

In the afternoon, trainees enthusiastically participated in the Go, Grow, and Glow Food Sorting Challenge, where they demonstrated their understanding by correctly classifying different food groups through an engaging and interactive activity.

Through these initiatives, AVRC II continues to encourage healthy lifestyles and proper nutrition while empowering trainees to make informed food choices for a healthier and more productive future. 🌱🥕🍎

LOOK: The AVRC II Search for Mr. and Ms. National Disability Rights (NDR) 2026 culminated in a Grand Finale held at the AVRC II Multipurpose Hall on Thursday, July 23, 2026, featuring a dance production number, a formal wear presentation, and the crowning of this year's winners.

Opening the finale, the candidates moved in sync through a spirited dance number, radiating strength, poise, and individuality on stage. They then transitioned into the formal/gown segment, where they captivated the audience with grace and sophistication, proudly representing the vocational courses they pursue at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II).

Both segments carried a message beyond appearance and choreography, proving that trainees with disabilities possess the confidence, resilience, and courage to inspire, building on the skills they had already displayed in the earlier Talent and Sports Attire Competitions.

The day culminated in the crowning of the following winners:

LOOK | A Pre-Employment Activity on Small Business Management seminar, in collaboration with the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), was successfully conducted on July 28, 2026, led by the Placement Services Section at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II Multipurpose Hall.

The seminar aimed to equip AVRC II trainees with the fundamental knowledge and practical understanding of business management, including basic business processes, to help prepare them for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

LOOK: The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II), a facility of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7—Central Visayas (DSWD-7), in partnership with the Juanito King Foundation, Inc., successfully conducted a four-day dental mission from July 20 to 23, 2026, as part of the celebration of National Disability Rights Week 2026.

Led by the Medical Section together with Dr. Reynaldo I. Mendoza, Dr. Julie C. Catulong, Dr. Beverly Gift D. Mercado, and Ms. Joanna L. Ignacio, the activity provided free tooth extractions, dental prophylaxis, and dental fillings (paste) to trainees and staff members.

A total of 54 trainees and 13 staff members benefited from free dental prophylaxis, while six trainees and six staff members received dental fillings (pasta). In addition, 17 trainees and two staff members underwent tooth extractions.

The dental mission concluded with a dental health education session, which covered proper toothbrushing technique and the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene.

Through this initiative, DSWD-7, AVRC II, and its partners continue to promote the health and well-being of persons with disabilities by ensuring access to quality oral healthcare.

LOOK: Cheers and friendly rivalry filled the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II Multipurpose Hall as the AVRC II hosted a Larong Pinoy activity on July 20, 2026, in observance of National Disability Rights Week.

Trainees of the AVRC II took part in a lineup of classic Filipino pastimes, including chess, dama, sungka, Pinoy Henyo, rubber band shoot, dampa, and the marble relay, turning the afternoon into a lively showcase of skill and spirit. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

The gathering went beyond recreation, strengthening bonds among participants, building their confidence, and encouraging them to take an active role in an environment built on inclusivity and support.

Through moments like these, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7—Central Visayas honors the abilities, joy, and accomplishments of every trainee.

LOOK: To conclude the observance of National Disability Rights Week from July 17–23, 2026, the DSWD Field Office VII – Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II) successfully held its annual Mr. & Ms. National Disability Rights (NDR) 2026 pageant. 🤴👸

The live Grand Finale showcased candidates with disabilities in a vibrant production number, followed by an elegant formal wear presentation.

Prior to the Grand Finale, the candidates competed in the preliminary events held on July 22, 2026, featuring the Talent Competition 🎤🎭 and Sports Attire Competition 🏸.

Candidates also vied for various Special Awards and participated in two rounds of the Question-and-Answer competition—the first involving all candidates and the second featuring the Top 4 finalists, which ultimately determined this year’s titleholders. 💙

At the end of the competition, Mr. Josua E. Roble, a person with an intellectual disability (Cerebral Palsy) representing Computer Technology, and Ms. Lyndon D. Bazar, a person with a hearing disability (Deaf) representing Dressmaking, were crowned Mr. and Ms. National Disability Rights 2026. 👑

The following candidates were also recognized for their outstanding performance throughout the competition:
