SM SEASIDE CITY CEBU JOINS BRIGADA ESKWELA 2026, HELPS PREPARE MAMBALING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

In support of Brigada Eskwela 2026, the annual school preparation program spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd), SM Seaside City Cebu mobilized employee volunteers to help prepare Mambaling Elementary School for the upcoming school year, reinforcing its commitment to education and community development.

Held on June 3, 2026, the volunteer activity brought together employees of SM Seaside at Mambaling Elementary School, where they participated in classroom clean-up and repainting efforts as part of the school's preparations for the opening of classes. Through teamwork and volunteerism, the employees helped refresh learning spaces, creating a cleaner, brighter, and more welcoming environment for students and teachers. The activity contributed to ensuring that classrooms are ready to support learning and growth in the new academic year.

Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide program led by DepEd that encourages communities, local government units, private organizations, and volunteers to work together in preparing public schools for the opening of classes. As part of SM's ongoing commitment to social responsibility, participation in Brigada Eskwela underscores its dedication to supporting programs that create lasting positive impact. SSS begins early June rollout of 2026 pension hike, citing need for early relief for pensioners

QUEZON CITY, June 1, 2026 – The Social Security System (SSS) today begins the early rollout of the second tranche of the Pension Reform Program (PRP) to 4.1 million pensioners, advancing the originally scheduled September pension increase to provide SSS pensioners with earlier financial relief.

Finance Secretary and Social Security Commission (SSC) Chair Frederick D. Go and SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said the agency is releasing approximately ₱6 billion in additional pension benefits from June to August 2026 to help pensioners cope with inflationary pressures and higher energy costs.

“We are releasing the second tranche of pension increases ahead of schedule to support millions of pensioners and their families, helping them meet their daily needs and enjoy greater financial security sooner,” Go said.

“With the early implementation, we hope to provide timely relief to our pensioners and their families as they continue to face every day financial challenges,” de Claro said.

He explained that SSS pensioners as of May 31, 2026, will be eligible to receive the pension hike beginning June 1, 2026, while those whose contingencies fall between June 1 and August 31, 2026, will receive their increased pension starting September 1, 2026.

Under the second tranche of the PRP, retirement and disability pensioners will receive a 10% increase in their monthly pensions, while death and survivor pensioners will receive a 5% increase.

“We recognize that rising prices and economic uncertainty continue to place pressure on Filipino families and businesses,” de Claro added. “Through the PRP, SSS ensures that our pensioners have access to timely, affordable and reliable financial support when they need it most.”

The PRP is the first-ever multi-year pension increase in SSS history. Under the program, pensioners will receive annual increases in their pensions every September from 2025 to 2027. #

Running with Love and Pride at the 2026 RUNRIO Pride Run

The 2026 RUNRIO Pride Run, co-presented by SM Supermalls and Mogu Mogu, is set to take place across three key venues: SM Lanang in Davao on June 7, SM Seaside Cebu on June 28, and the SM MOA Complex in Pasay on June 21. Pride Run 2026 is poised to be the biggest edition of the running series yet, targeting 15,000 runners across its three legs.

Now in its third year, Pride Run continues to celebrate and recognize the LGBTQIA+ community and its ongoing fight for equality, tolerance, and acceptance. While created with the LGBTQIA+ community in mind, Pride Run welcomes all runners regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or skill level.

Pride Run 2026 marks another milestone as SM Supermalls returns as the presenting partner of the event for the third consecutive year, further strengthening its commitment to inclusivity and diversity. This year, Pride Run introduces a new 16K category alongside the existing 1K Dog Run, 3K, 5K, and 10K events. 28TH FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL BRINGS ACCLAIMED FRENCH FEATURES FOR FREE SCREENINGS AT SM CINEMA

Film enthusiasts and culture lovers can max out their appreciation for world-class cinema as the 28th French Film Festival officially opened on May 29, 2026 at SM City Cebu, welcoming members of the media, guests, and partners for an evening marked by meaningful exchanges, shared experiences, and a deeper appreciation for French filmmaking.

SM IN THE VISAYAS WIN SILVER AT PRESTIGIOUS ICSC MAXI AWARDS

SM malls in the Visayas, continue to gain global recognition for sustainability and community-driven innovation after winning a Silver Award at the prestigious International Council of Shopping Centers MAXI Awards for “Art From All: Turning Community Action into Public Art,” a sustainability campaign mounted at your most-loved SM City Cebu and SM City Iloilo, that transformed environmental responsibility into an engaging and immersive mall experience. The ICSC MAXI Awards is regarded as one of the world’s most respected recognitions for excellence in marketing and innovation in the retail and shopping industry.

Launched in May 2025, Art From All encouraged shoppers and mall communities to donate plastic waste which were later repurposed into large-scale eco-art installations displayed inside the malls. Through the initiative, a total of 31,634 plastic items were collected and transformed into meaningful public artworks, turning recycling into a highly visible and participatory activity that allowed communities to directly contribute to artworks carrying both cultural and environmental significance.

At SM City Cebu, collected plastic bottles were transformed into a massive whale shark or “butanding” eco-art installation titled “The Gentle Giant,” symbolizing Cebu’s rich marine biodiversity and coastal heritage. The artwork served as both a visual centerpiece and a reminder of the importance of protecting marine ecosystems through collective environmental action.

Meanwhile, at SM City Iloilo, donated plastic waste became part of the “Mangrove Memory Tree,” a life-sized eco-installation created by Ilongga artist Margaux Blas in partnership with Rezbin. Inspired by the role of mangroves in protecting coastal communities and marine ecosystems, the installation symbolized resilience, sustainability, and the collective power of community participation in environmental conservation.

Art From All was designed to make sustainability more engaging and accessible for everyday shoppers, transforming ordinary mall visits into opportunities to create positive environmental impact. Through the campaign, guests were invited to donate recyclable materials and see these items reimagined into inspiring public art installations, proving that small actions from the community can come together into meaningful experiences all for you and for future generations.

The recognition from the ICSC MAXI Awards reflects SM Supermalls’ growing commitment to championing initiatives that create positive environmental and social impact across the communities it serves.
