USC is at ICRA!

Shared with permission from his post, USC Computer Engineer and robotics expert Dr. Luis Gerardo Cañete shares about his journey back to the world stage:

It took a couple of years of building a lab, gathering and mentoring brilliant people and overall living the next chapter of my life but I’m back in ICRA to present. There is a feeling of pride looking at my ID and seeing Philippines on it for the first time. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and the chance to show what we’ve been working hard for this past year. The quality of our work should speak for its self but being able to share it at what I consider the world stage of Robotics is exhilarating.

Carolinian BS Computer Engineering students—Albert Novell Enabe, Jaime Manolo C. Cortes, and Clark Daniel C. Villacampa—won the Best Overall Project award at the TFT Global Engineering Innovation Challenge 2026.

Their winning entry, "Digital Transformation of Philippine Road Transport: A Scalable Blueprint for Public Utility Vehicle Modernization," provides an innovative solution to the public transportation system of our country.

To Albert, Jaime, and Clark, the University and the Department of Computer Engineering are beaming with pride as we celebrate your success. This win is a shared triumph for the entire Carolinian community—a testament to how our curriculum bridges the gap between theoretical excellence and practical, community-oriented innovation.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the guiding hands of our faculty. Our sincerest gratitude goes to Dr. Philip Virgil Astillo, faculty of the USC Department of Computer Engineering, for his tireless mentorship and for believing in these students every step of the way.

We extend our appreciation to The Filipino Times for giving our students the space to shine. This experience has been an invaluable milestone in their journey as future innovators.

Do you want to be the next global innovator? Join a legacy of sustained excellence. Be a Carolinian Computer Engineer.
