Born in Cebu on September 9, 1878, he rose from serving his home province to becoming the first Speaker of the Philippine Assembly, Vice President, and eventually President of the Philippine Commonwealth.
For us Cebuanos, his legacy is more than a name we read in history books. It is a reminder of the values we hold close: service, humility, unity, and love for our community. May his life continue to inspire us, especially as young Sugboanons, to honor where we come from and use our voices, abilities, and opportunities to serve others.
Today, we remember not only a statesman, but a fellow Cebuano whose life helped shape the Philippines. May we keep his legacy alive through the way we lead, serve, and care for the community we call home.
Malipayong Osmeรฑa Day, mga Sugboanon!
