𝗙𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 / 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗦𝘆𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗗 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗳𝘁, 𝗳𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗺𝘀. 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗦𝘆𝘀 𝗜𝗗𝘀:

Common PhilSys ID Scam Modus
1. Fake PhilSys Registration Assistance

Scammers pretend to help victims “speed up” or “fix” their National ID registration in exchange for payment.

Modus:

Victim receives text, Facebook message, or call.
Scammer claims they can:
expedite National ID delivery;
correct registration errors;
provide printable digital IDs;
activate ePhilID.
Victim is asked to send:
full name;
birthday;
selfie/photo;
OTP;
GCash payment.

Purpose: Identity theft or account takeover.

2. Fake PhilSys Verification for E-Wallets or Banks

Scammers impersonate banks, lending apps, or e-wallet support agents requesting PhilSys verification.

Modus:

Victim receives a message:

“Your account will be suspended unless you verify using PhilSys ID.”

Victim submits:
National ID photo;
selfie;
OTP;
account credentials.

Result:

Unauthorized access to bank/e-wallet accounts;
Loan applications under victim’s identity;
Money mule activities.
3. SIM Registration + PhilSys ID Scam

Fraudsters exploit SIM registration requirements.

Modus:

Fake links imitate telecom websites.
Victims upload PhilSys ID and personal information.
Scammer gains access to:
mobile number;
OTPs;
online banking accounts.
4. Loan Application / Buy Now Pay Later Fraud

Scammers use stolen PhilSys IDs to apply for:

online loans;
BNPL accounts;
e-wallet upgrades;
bank accounts.

Indicators:

Victim suddenly receives collection notices;
Unknown loan accounts appear under their name.
5. Fake Government Assistance or Ayuda Scam

Scammers impersonate government agencies.

Modus:

Victim is informed they qualified for:
ayuda;
cash assistance;
subsidies;
employment aid.
PhilSys ID and OTP are requested for “verification.”

Result: Financial fraud and identity theft.

6. Selling or Renting Verified Accounts

Some individuals are recruited to surrender their PhilSys IDs for account verification.

Modus:

Offered payment to:
open bank/e-wallet accounts;
verify accounts using PhilSys;
surrender ATM/SIM/e-wallet credentials.

Possible Violations:

Money muling;
Identity fraud;
Violation of the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act;
Cybercrime-related offenses.
Warning Signs
Requests for OTPs;
Urgent account verification messages;
Links not ending in official government domains;
Requests for selfies with ID;
Offers to “buy” verified accounts or IDs;
Requests for payment to process PhilSys concerns.
Safety Tips

✅ Verify only through official government channels
✅ Never share OTPs or passwords
✅ Do not upload PhilSys IDs to suspicious links
✅ Enable multi-factor authentication on bank/e-wallet accounts
✅ Report suspicious activity immediately

PNP CYBERCOPS NAB 52 IN ANTI-CYBERCRIME OPS, FILE 89 CASES

The Philippine National Police (PNP), through its Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), reported significant operational gains from May 1 to 15, 2026 as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and protect the public from online threats and cyber-enabled crimes.

During the two-week period, the PNP ACG referred a total of 89 cases for filing, consisting of 67 regular filings and 22 inquest proceedings. A total of 52 individuals were arrested in cyber-related operations, including 23 suspects through entrapment operations, 28 wanted persons, and one individual through a rescue operation. The ACG also recorded the conviction of 10 individuals in cyber-related cases.

The ACG also intensified cyber patrolling, digital forensic examinations, and the implementation of Warrants to Disclose Computer Data (WDCD) to support ongoing investigations and strengthen evidence gathering in cyber-related cases.

During the same period, cyber patrolling operations reached 587 activities, while 18 digital forensic examinations were completed to support case build-up and prosecution efforts. Ten victims were likewise rescued from various forms of online exploitation and cyber-related harm.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., commended the dedication of cyber operatives, stressing the importance of sustained vigilance in the digital space.

“Our cybercops continue to adapt to the fast-changing digital world. These results show our strong commitment to protect the public—hindi po natin hahayaan na magamit ang teknolohiya sa panlilinlang at iba pang krimen,” he said.

The PNP said the accomplishments reflect the organization’s continuing efforts to strengthen cyber policing capabilities and improve investigative response against emerging online threats.

These efforts likewise support the government’s broader objective of promoting safer communities and a more secure digital environment for Filipinos.

The PNP emphasized that it will continue to intensify cyber patrols, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and enhance its technical capabilities to keep pace with emerging online threats. Public cooperation remains vital in reporting suspicious online activities and helping prevent cybercrime incidents.

As the organization moves forward with its modernization efforts, it remains guided by its commitment to deliver “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
