Today, we commorate the 148th birth anniversary of former Philippine President Sergio Osmeรฑa Sr., a distinguished stateman and symbol of cebuano pride and has contributed to what Cebu and the Philippines is today.

May his values of public service, integrity, humility and dedication to the Filipino people continue to inspire us in building a stronger and better community.

Today, we commemorate the brave hearts who fought, sacrificed, and shed their blood for the freedom of our nation from the colonial powers that once set foot on our shores. Their courage, patriotism, and unwavering love for the Filipino people paved the way for the liberties we enjoy today.

But as we honor the heroes of our history, we should not forget the modern heroes of our time, the ordinary Filipinos who continue to prove that heroism does not belong only in the pages of history. They are the teachers who shape the future, the workers who keep our communities moving, the volunteers who serve those in need, and every Filipino who chooses to stand for what is right.

May we remember that being a hero is not always about grand acts of sacrifice. Sometimes, it is simply choosing to serve, to care, to speak up, and to make a difference in the lives of others.

Today we commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of the late Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr., whose courage and unwavering commitment to freedom continue to resonate with Filipinos to this day.

His assassination became a defining moment in Philippine history, sparking a nationwide movement that largely contributed to the People Power Revolution and the restoration of democracy after years of dictatorship.

As filipinos let us reflect on his life and take inspiration from his courage, patriotism, and determination to never stop challenging those who sought to destroy the democratic values of our nation.
