The Department of Energy (DOE) and Japanโs Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy security and supply resilience through a Joint Statement issued on 28 May 2026 following the State Visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to Japan.
Under the Partnership on Wide Energy and Resources Resilience Asia (POWERR Asia), Japan will support the Philippinesโ Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) Program, including the development of new stockpiling facilities, through feasibility studies, capacity building, and technical cooperation.
The Joint Statement also supports the Philippinesโ vision for ASEAN-wide joint stockpiling, advancing regional cooperation toward a more secure, resilient, and sustainable energy future for the Philippines and the broader Asian region.
