To celebrate the 2026 National Women's Month, the City of Cauayan, through the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GADFPS) and Cauayan City Health Office I, organized a meaningful initiative aimed at benefiting women 30 to 65 years old. The activity is titled "Babae Mahalaga Ka!, Magpa Cancer Screening Na!.
Connecting health education and cervical cancer screening to the National Women's Month Celebration is a direct application of the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710), which mandates the right to health and comprehensive services. The activity also transform the celebration into an empowering, life-saving action that fosters self-care and autonomy. Health education part of the activity debunks myths surrounding Human Papilloma Virus and Cervical Cancer, reducing the fear and shame associated with reproductive screenings. The information given during the activity enables them to make informed decisions about their bodies and seek medical advice , which is a core component of self-empowerment. Free screenings conducted remove economic barriers for vulnerable women, ensuring they have equitable access to care. It also allows for early detection of precancerous cells , which turns a potentially fatal disease into a manageable one.
A total of 133 individual (126 female and 7 male) participated in the said acitivity, including 86 women who underwent screening.
Continuous provision of safe, effective, inclusive and quality primary health services will be provided to the community by the Local Government of Cauayan City through the CHO I
