The SSU University Student Council, together with the Student Organizations of Samar State University, is extending help to the families and residents affected by the fire incident that occurred earlier today in Brgy. 3, Pier 2, Catbalogan City.

Many families have lost their homes and belongings, and some of our fellow students have also been directly affected by this tragedy. In this difficult time, we are accepting both monetary and in-kind donations to help provide immediate assistance and support to those in need.

Every donation, big or small, can go a long way in helping affected families and community members recover and rebuild.

𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 💙 𝐔𝐒𝐂 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐄 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧

Real change begins when student voices are heard, protected, and represented. During the CHRE Action Planning Session held last April 30, 2026, at the RIC AVTR, USC strengthened its commitment to advancing student welfare through meaningful and action-oriented reforms aimed at creating a more inclusive, accountable, and student-centered academic environment.

Student Regent Kaven Nuñez emphasized that student rights are human rights, reinforcing the call for institutional systems that genuinely protect students and uphold their dignity, welfare, and participation in governance. The session became a vital avenue for identifying long-term reforms that address pressing concerns faced by the student body and promote a culture rooted in transparency, equality, and accountability.

Among the proposed initiatives discussed were mandatory consultations and educational seminars focused on academic rights, grievance procedures, and gender equality awareness to ensure that students are informed, empowered, and protected. The session also highlighted the importance of establishing stronger student representation in the Code of Discipline to guarantee that student perspectives are directly included in decision-making processes that impact the community.

Calls for stronger and more effective faculty evaluation mechanisms were likewise raised to promote accountability and maintain quality standards in education. In addition, the discussion amplified the need for greater institutional support and protection for student-athletes and artists, recognizing their significant contributions and the unique challenges they continue to face within the university setting.

More than a planning session, this initiative stands as a collective call for SYSTEMATIC CHANGE — one that prioritizes student welfare, safeguards human rights, and ensures that no student sector is left unheard. USC remains steadfast in pushing for reforms that create lasting impact and empower students to become active participants in shaping a more just and inclusive academic community.

SSU continues to raise the banner of innovation and excellence on the global stage as it secures a spot among the Top 500 Innovative Universities in the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI).
SSU proudly ranked 69th worldwide, climbing significantly from Rank 117 in 2024 and Rank 98 in 2025. The University also earned Rank 2 in Eastern Visayas and Rank 9 in the Philippines, reflecting its growing impact in transformative education, research, and innovation.
Further strengthening its global standing, SSU was also recognized in the Global Top 100 across twenty-four WURI categories, including Infrastructure and Technology, Digital and AI Transformation in Strategy and Management, Industrial Application, Ethics and Integrity, and Inclusive Social Innovation for the Underserved.
This remarkable achievement highlights the unwavering dedication of the University community in advancing innovative, responsive, and globally competitive education.

The University Student Council proudly facilitated and managed the backstage and technical operations during the 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭 held at the Gymnasium, in support of the request of the Director of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Program.

This initiative was spearheaded by 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐲 together with the President of the University Student Council, 𝐊𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩 𝐍𝐮ñ𝐞𝐳, through the collaborative efforts of the Alumni Association, AChep, and USC.

To all facilitators, technical crew members, and volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes thank you for your commitment, teamwork, and dedication in making the event successful. 💙
