ποΈ A STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY FOR THE YOUTH OF ZAMBOANGA
The Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PYAP) β Catbalogan Chapter is deeply heartbroken by the tragic shooting incident that occurred today, August 18, 2026, at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School in Zamboanga City.
As a youth organization, this tragedy is especially painful for us. Knowing that young people were among those affected reminds us of the vulnerability of our youth and the urgent responsibility of every community to protect them.
We strongly condemn violence in all its forms, especially violence that threatens the safety and well-being of children and young people.
Schools should be places where our youth can learn, dream, build friendships, and feel safe. No student should have to experience fear in a place that is meant to nurture their future.
Our deepest condolences go to the families who lost their loved ones. We also extend our thoughts and support to the students, teachers, school personnel, families, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident.
As youth advocates, we call for stronger measures to ensure safe schools, responsible communities, accessible support systems, and greater protection for every young person.
Let this tragedy not only move us to mourn, but also to actβto listen more closely to our young people, protect them more intentionally, and build communities where violence has no place.
The youth deserve to be safe.
The youth deserve to be heard.
The youth deserve a future free from violence.
ποΈ PYAP Catbalogan Chapter stands with the youth of Zamboanga and with all those affected by this tragedy.
May peace, healing, and justice prevail.
