QC village execs hail VDR; proud, inspired to follow his footsteps

THE officials of Quezon City’s 142 barangays have taken great pride in the appointment of Atty. Vic Rodriguez as Executive Secretary by incoming President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos, Jr., even as they hailed him for providing exemplary service as barangay and a city government official when he first started in public service.

The city’s barangay officials also said that the appointment of Rodriguez, who is a native of Quezon City and previously served there, inspired them to dream that they could also become national leaders someday.

Rodriguez had 10 years of public service in Quezon City, first starting as a barangay kagawad, and later on becoming the youngest barangay captain in District 4, at the age of 19, while giving service on a city-wide scope as he concurrently headed the city’s community welfare service department.

“In behalf of the barangays of District 4, we are proud to say na ang anak ng Distrito 4 ang magiging susunod na executive secretary ng Pilipinas. Congratulations Atty. Vic Rodriguez!” Jose Maria Rodriguez, District 4 Liga ng Barangay President said.

For his part, Rodriguez who was honored and privileged to be conferred the recognition, humbly shared the award with the barangay officials.

He added that the familiar faces in the group who attended the ceremony made it feel like a homecoming for him.

Inspiring them to do their best in leading their respective barangays, Rodriguez pointed out that it is a great distinction to be a barangay official in Quezon City.

He described it as a great honor since it is already comparable to being a local government chief executive in a municipality in the province.

“Pagka naging barangay captain ka ng Quezon City, para kang mayor ng isang munisipyo sa probinsya
Talagang hindi ordinaryo na kayo’y naglilingkod bilang barangay captain sa Lungsod Quezon sapagkat maihahalintulad ninyo ang inyong mga sarili sa isang municipal mayor down south or up north in terms of land area, in terms of productivity, in terms of the number of commercial establishments that are operating in your respective jurisdictions. So talagang you should be proud that you are serving our beloved city – Quezon City,” he said.

Rodriguez likewise took the opportunity, on behalf of President-elect Marcos, to thank the barangay officials for the overwhelming votes that the latter garnered in the said city.

The incoming Executive Secretary also assured them that, as he returns to public service, this time on a national level, aid will be promptly given, if possible, to any barangay needing assistance, not only in Quezon City but in the whole country, regardless of political affiliations.

“There is again a call to serve the nation
You cannot say No to a President who asked you to serve with him. So naririto ulit ako at tinanggap ang hamon

“One of the good traits of Pres. Bongbong Marcos is that he can look beyond political colors, he can look beyond politics
it is very clear to him that he will serve, not just the more than 31-million Filipinos who voted for him, he is now the leader, he is now the representation, he is now the President of the 110-million Filipinos out there.

BBM moves to protect the poor, most affected sectors from ill-effects of runaway fuel prices

INCOMING President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos , Jr. is bent on solving the problem of the ballooning prices of petroleum and fuel products by focusing on sectors and workers whose livelihoods are endangered by the unabated price hikes.

In gunning down a proposal to suspend the excise tax on fuel amid the almost weekly price increases, Marcos explained that suspension would be a blanket solution that may not necessarily help those who are reeling from the impact of the increases.

“I prefer to handle the problem on the other side of the equation and provide assistance to those who are in need because if you reduce the excise taxes that does not necessarily help those who are most in need, ‘yung talagang tinatamaan. Kasi blanket eh,” the president-elect said.

“So, yung aking iniisip kung sino ‘yung kaagad na tinamaan, example yung lumabas kaagad– mga transport, ‘yung mga nagpapasada, all of them tinamaan kaagad, i-focus muna natin sa kanila– ‘yung mga nangangailangan talaga,” he explained.

“Because you know, ‘yung naman may kaya they can afford to even the VAT. It’s those who have
those whose livelihoods are in danger or in danger of losing their livelihood because of the increase in oil (prices). Baka dapat dun tayo mag focus,” he further explained.

The incoming President stressed that transportation is fundamental because it is essential in the peoples’ daily lives and it affects not only the peoples’ mobility but also the movement of raw materials, finished products, agriculture, and food supply, among others, hence the resolution of the problem of transportation is an utmost priority.

While admitting that the government’s hands are tied in terms of petroleum prices dictated by the world market, Marcos said his incoming administration is considering taking the direction that the previous administration of his father took when the oil crisis occurred in 1973.

“Wala naman tayong magawa, we just have to take whatever price we’re getting but hopefully, I remember in the last oil crisis in 1973, napakiusapan naman natin ang mga kaibigan natin na oil producing countries na medyo pagbigyan tayo in terms of the credit, in terms of the payment period, and things like that. Baka we’ll pursue that again, sa diplomacy side lang naman ‘yan,” he said.

Marcos also disclosed that he already opened discussions with other countries that have oil supplies, adding that they are also considering other measures that would cushion the impact of the fuel price increases.

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III earlier urged Marcos to suspend the implementation of excise tax on petroleum products, as he vowed to file a bill on the issue.

Pimentel made the call as the public continues to reel amid a series of oil price hikes and their effects on prices of basic commodities and services, adding that the public’s sufferings should no longer be worsened by the excise tax on fuel, which, based on a progressive group’s computation, is around P16 per liter.
