PRO-8 Swiftly Apprehends Suspect in MacArthur Shooting Following Hot Pursuit
CAMP KANGLEON, PALO, LEYTE – The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), under the leadership of PBGEN JASON L CAPOY, swiftly apprehended a suspect involved in a shooting incident following a hot pursuit operation conducted in Brgy. Palale 2, MacArthur, Leyte, Wednesday morning, August 20, 2025.
Authorities identified the suspect as alias “Osep,” a 40-year-old male, self-employed and resident of MacArthur, Leyte. While the victim, identified as alias “Eco,” a 40-year-old security guard, with live-in partner, also a resident of the same town.
Initial investigations revealed that the conflict between the two parties began a day before the incident, when the victim reportedly had a confrontation with the suspect’s son. On the morning of the incident, the suspect confronted the victim regarding the said matter, which escalated into a heated argument and subsequently resulted in the suspect firing a shot using a firearm of unidentified caliber.
The victim managed to evade the fired bullet and subsequently turned over one fired cartridge case and one bullet of unknown caliber to authorities.
In response, officers from MacArthur Municipal Police Station (MPS), working alongside the victim, conducted a hot pursuit operation that led to the suspect’s arrest just outside his residence; however, the firearm used in the incident was not recovered.
The suspect is now in the custody of the MacArthur MPS and will face charges for illegal discharge of fi****ms.
RD CAPOY praised the prompt and decisive action of the operating unit in arresting the suspect. He affirmed, “PRO-8 is steadfast in strengthening its efforts against crime and lawlessness. We will not waver in pursuing those who endanger our communities, ensuring justice is prompt and impartial.”
PRO-8 will continue to intensify its campaign to curb gun-related violence through swift and decisive law enforcement. Likewise, PRO-8 urges the public to cooperate and report suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
