On October 21, 2026, all Negosyo Centers in Northern Samar simultaneously conducted consumer advocacy and education activities in support of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) continuing commitment to consumer welfare and protection.
Through these initiatives, DTI aims to strengthen public awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities, encourage informed purchasing decisions, and promote responsible consumer behavior.

This initiative is part of the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month 2026, with the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”

Together, let us build a community of informed, empowered, and responsible consumers.

13 NORTHERN SAMAR MSMEs GRADUATE FROM THE KMME-MME PROGRAM

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- Northern Samar Provincial Office attended the CY 2026 Batch 1 & 2 KMME-MME Region 8 Graduation Ceremony held on October 12, 2026, at Radiant Hotel, Tacloban City.

A total of 13 mentees from Northern Samar successfully graduated from the program, with six (6) mentees from Batch 1 and seven (7) from Batch 2.

DTI- Northern Samar congratulates all graduates on this achievement and wishes them continued success in their entrepreneurial journey.

Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) is a mentorship program of DTI that helps MSMEs improve their business operations and achieve sustainable growth. Through a series of learning sessions facilitated by experienced business mentors, the program equips entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and skills in areas such as marketing, financial management, operations, and business planning.

The program is implemented in partnership with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE)- Go Negosyo.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Northern Samar, through the RAPID Growth Project- Provincial Coordination Unit (PCU) Northern Samar, conducted Batch 1 of the Capacity Building Training on Supply and Logistics Management for Cluster Consolidators on October 15-16, 2026, at Casa Miguel, Catarman, Northern Samar.

The two-day training gathered 34 coconut farmers from Catubig, Laoang, San Roque, Mondragon, Catarman, and San Jose, representing five (5) cluster consolidators and eleven (11) Farmers’ Organizations (FOs). The activity aimed to strengthen their knowledge and skills in managing supply and logistics operations within the coconut value chain.

Conducted in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)- Northern Samar, the training featured resource persons from PCA who shared their expertise and practical insights on improving the sourcing, consolidation, handling, storage, transportation, and delivery of coconut products.

The activity was also graced by OIC Provincial Director Pedro Bimbo B. Tan, who delivered the closing message, emphasizing the importance of strengthening coconut farmers and enhancing their capacities to improve their operations and market competitiveness.

Financial Literacy for Micro-Entrepreneurs: DTI-NSPO & UEP Partner for Local Business Growth in Northern Samar

DTI-Northern Samar Provincial Office (DTI-NSPO), in partnership with the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP)- College of Business Administration (Accountancy Department), conducted an extension program titled "Enhancing Financial Literacy in Recordkeeping and Financial Planning of Micro Entrepreneurs in Catarman, N. Samar" on October 16, 2026, at the Barangay Covered Court, Brgy. Bangkerohan, Catarman, Northern Samar.

The activity aimed to bridge economic growth and strengthen financial management skills among micro-enterprises across Northern Samar. It introduced local entrepreneurs to essential concepts in financial literacy, simple recordkeeping, and financial statement preparation to promote long-term stability and business growth.

The day-long activity served as an interactive learning platform for micro-entrepreneurs to understand daily income and expense tracking, budgeting techniques, and strategies for managing savings, debt, and credit effectively.

The event featured faculty members from the UEP-CBA Accountancy Department as resource speakers:

This collaborative effort between DTI-NSPO, UEP, and local barangay leaders highlights a shared commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and supporting economic development throughout Catarman and Northern Samar.

𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙨.

The Department of Trade and Industry – Northern Samar Provincial Office (DTI-NSPO), through its RAPID Growth Project, in partnership with the Negosyo Center, Provincial Agriculture Office, and Local Government Unit of Allen – Municipal Agriculture Office, successfully conducted the Capacity Building on Intercropping for Sustainable Coconut Farming on September 14–15, 2026 in Allen, Northern Samar.

The activity brought together 36 farmers who gained practical knowledge and skills on intercropping techniques, sustainable coconut farm management, and other practices that can help maximize farm resources and diversify production.

The learning sessions were facilitated by Mr. Mar-Mar L. Padilla, owner of Mar-Mar’s Integrated Farm, who shared his experiences and practical insights on farm diversification and intercropping. Meanwhile, Mr. Fermin R. Ymata Jr. and Mr. Gabby G. Domasig, Agricultural Technologists from the Provincial Agriculture Office, provided technical guidance on intercropping practices and grafting techniques, equipping participants with additional knowledge that can be applied in their own farms.

The activity also included a benchmarking session, allowing participants to observe actual farm practices and gain firsthand insights on the application of sustainable farming techniques.

Through initiatives like this, DTI-RAPID continues to empower farmers by strengthening their knowledge and skills, promoting farm diversification, and encouraging sustainable practices toward more productive and resilient coconut farming communities in Northern Samar.

As part of our continuing commitment to cultural mapping and grassroots economic development, the DTI Northern Samar Provincial Office conducted a cultural mapping activity on 7 October2026 among the indigenous people and youth residing in Brgy. San Isidro, Las Navas, Northern Samar. The DTI Team is composed of Mr. Enrico L. Dural (Business Development Division Head), Mr. Ronie Robis (Negosyo Center-Las Navas Business Counselor) and Mr. Kim Tan (OTOP technical staff).

Aligned with 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟏𝟓(𝐥) 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟏 on the inventory and development of cultural heritage-based products, and creative industry-based goods and services, this initiative goes beyond preserving Northern Samar’s rich local history and traditions—it acts as a vital bridge toward identifying and developing 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 (𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐏) enterprises rooted in local culture and creativity.

The Department of Trade and Industry- Northern Samar Provincial Office (DTI-NSPO) led the Region 8's first Market Exposure, Benchmarking, and Business Linkage Visit to the Likhang Filipino Exhibit Halls, bringing together thirty (30) exhibitors from Northern Samar, providing them with an opportunity to gain valuable insights into product development, packaging, branding, merchandising, and market readiness, while exploring opportunities to further develop and position their locally made products for wider and more competitive markets.

The activity enabled the MSMEs to examine the wide range of proudly Filipino-made products on display, learn about the requirements and qualifications for showcasing products at Likhang Filipino, and identify opportunities to further improve and position their products for wider markets.

The delegation was joined by DTI-Northern Samar OIC-Provincial Director Pedro Bimbo B. Tan, retired Provincial Director Mimosa Regis, Trade Promotion Officer Jasper Dula, NC-TIDS Jalyn Gorpido, and NCTSS-Catubig Sherena Hipe. The Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO) Team, led by Ms. Juliet Virtudes, also joined the activity.

The delegation was warmly accommodated by Ms. Jerliza Capsa, Mr. Alphonse D. Estacio, Ms. Zharita S. Bagayas, and Mr. Joven R. Rico, who facilitated the visit, discussed Likhang Filipino's requirements and qualifications, and addressed questions from the participating MSMEs and delegates.

The activity provided Northern Samar MSMEs with valuable market insights, potential business connections, and a better understanding of the standards and opportunities available to locally made products seeking to enter broader and more competitive markets.

DTI-Northern Samar extends its sincere appreciation to the Likhang Filipino team for the warm accommodation, valuable insights, and opportunity extended to our MSMEs to learn, connect, and explore new market possibilities.
