Before becoming known as "Galay," the area was called "Dama Saging," a Maguindanaon term meaning "Place of Banana Tree." This aptly described the lush landscape, abundant with banana trees, that characterized the region. The transformation to "Galay" occurred in 2013 when Commander Ali Haliludin, Haliludin's son, entered politics. This shift marked a new chapter in the community's history, forever associating the name with the bravery and leadership of the Haliludin family.

Born in 1931 at Kudal, Bagoinged, Pagalungan, Maguindanao, Haliludin was a man of many facets. He was a successful businessman, a community leader, and a staunch supporter of the Mujahideen, a group fighting for the rights of Muslim Filipinos. His first business venture in Sitio Galay was a chicken farm, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. He was also a brother of Sheikh Hashim Salamat, a prominent figure in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M**F).
Haliludin's generosity and commitment to his community were evident in his distribution of land to families who could not afford to purchase it. This act of kindness fostered a sense of belonging and unity within Sitio Galay, laying the foundation for a community built on shared values. Despite his wealth and influence, Haliludin remained grounded, prioritizing the well-being of his community and the empowerment of its members.

Ali, the sixth child of Haliludin, was destined for leadership. His father recognized his potential and sent him to Camp Abubakar, a training ground for future leaders, in 1981. Ali's training honed his skills and prepared him for the responsibilities that awaited him. When Haliludin tragically died in a vehicular accident in 1999, Ali, having completed his training, stepped into his father's shoes. He assumed the mantle of leadership, carrying on his father's legacy of bravery and dedication to the community.
Ali, known as "Ali Galay," became the Base Commander of the Second Field Base Command, a position that demanded courage, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment to his people. His leadership was marked by his unwavering commitment to peace and unity, echoing the values instilled in him by his father.
