Seagrass meadows don’t thrive alone—they flourish when mangroves and coral reefs are healthy.

Mangroves trap sediment and filter pollution from land ➡️ Seagrass meadows need that clean, calm water to photosynthesize and grow ➡️ Coral reefs then benefit from clearer waters offshore. 🤓

Mangroves, seagrass, and coral reefs form a connected coastal ecosystem. When we protect one, we strengthen the entire system. We protect OUR system.

Intense heat arising from climate change makes water more than a resource; it is a lifeline for hydration, hygiene, and health. Yet, according to UN Women, approximately 1.1 billion women — 27% of the global women population — lack access to safely managed drinking water services.

In some communities, women and girls, who are usually tasked with fetching water for their families, face long, unsafe journeys that leave them vulnerable to harassment and assault, and often prevent them from attending school or earning a living.

As the world warms, the theme “Where water flows, equality grows” reminds us that water is key to building a just and resilient future.

This World Water Day, coincidentally happening during National Women’s Month, let’s act to ensure water flows fairly, reaching those who need it most and empowering women who face the greatest challenges in accessing it.

Saving water is not just conservation; it is climate action and equality in practice.

|| READ: DENR Secretary Juan Miguel T. Cuna announces an aggressive drive to “cut the red tape” and empower DENR regional offices as “permitting accelerators.” One-stop kiosks will be established to help communities track applications and access technical data with transparency.

Speaking at the 2026 World Water Day event, Secretary Cuna emphasized the need to address the country’s water challenges, describing the current state as a “system check” for the nation.

The DENR-WRMO is also implementing the final phase of a P485 million roadmap to ensure reliable and sustainable water resources for all.

Forests are disappearing fast.

In 2024 alone, 6.7 million hectares of tropical primary forest were lost.

That’s 18 football fields every minute.

Healthy forests sustain livelihoods, food systems and climate stability.
