Tropical Storm “BASYANG” (PENHA)

Cantilan, Surigao del Sur is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 as Tropical Storm BASYANG maintains its strength while moving toward Eastern Mindanao.
Current Situation
As of 4:00 AM, Tropical Storm BASYANG was located 440 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with:
• 65 km/h maximum sustained winds
• Up to 80 km/h gustiness
• Central pressure of 1000 hPa
• Moving west-southwestward at 15 km/h
• Strong to gale-force winds extending up to 300 km from the center
Under Signal No. 2, Cantilan may experience:
-Gale-force winds (62–88 km/h)
-Strong and damaging gusts, especially in coastal and upland areas
-Moderate to heavy rainfall
-Possible flooding in low-lying barangays
-Possible landslides in mountainous and erosion-prone areas
SEA CONDITION
-Coastal waters of Surigao del Sur may reach up to 5.5 meters
-Sea travel is dangerous
-All fishing boats, motorbancas, and small sea crafts are STRONGLY ADVISED NOT to venture out to sea
There is also a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge with possible coastal flooding in exposed and low-lying coastal communities within the next 48 hours.
BASYANG is forecast to make its initial landfall over Surigao del Sur between tonight and early tomorrow morning, cross Mindanao, then move toward the Visayas and Palawan while gradually weakening.
