In a proactive effort to protect the community from surging digital threats, the personnel of Candijay Municipal Police Station, under the direct supervision of ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ (COP), conducted a comprehensive cyber-awareness campaign today September 3, 2026 at around 4:00 PM. Police officers distributed informative educational flyers to the constituents of Poblacion, Candijay, Bohol. This initiative aims to equip Candijayanos with the
knowledge needed to spot, avoid, and report cyber scams.
CRUCIAL CYBER SECURITY ALERTS FROM YOUR POLICE STATION
1. QUISHING (QR Code Phishing) Scam
What it is: Scammers replace legitimate QR codes (on restaurant tables, parking meters, or public posters) with
malicious ones, or send them via email disguised as utility bills or prizes.
โข The Danger: Scanning takes you to fake banking or login websites designed to steal your credentials, or
automatically downloads malware to your phone.
โข Candijay MPS Tip: Always inspect physical QR code stickers to ensure they haven't been pasted over legitimate
ones. Verify the destination URL preview before logging in.
2. PHISHING Scam (via Email, SMS, or Links)
What it is: Deceptive messages mimicking trusted organizations like GCash, banks, or government offices, falsely
claiming your account is 'blocked' or you won a raffle.
โข The Danger: Urges you to click a link and provide your One-Time Password (OTP), credit card numbers, or PINs,
giving scammers full access to your money.
โข Candijay MPS Tip: Legit banks and companies will NEVER ask for your OTP or password over a link. Treat urgent
or threatening messages with strict skepticism.
3. ONLINE INVESTMENT Scam (Double Your Money / Ponzi)
What it is: Social media platforms or chat groups advertising 'high-yield, risk-free' investment tasks, crypto trading, or
financial schemes promising massive, quick returns.
โข The Danger: They might pay small returns early on to build trust, but once you invest a large amount, the platform
vanishes along with your life savings.
โข Candijay MPS Tip: If an investment sounds too good to be true, it is a scam. Check registration credentials with the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) before giving money.
