The National Nutrition Council – Region VIII (NNC RO8) conducted a workshop on the updating of the 2026–2028 Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) on September 8–9, 2026, at Hotel Alejandro, Tacloban City.

Representing the City were City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Roy P. Maribojoc, MPH, and City Nutrition Program Coordinator Ralph Maribojoc, who actively participated in the workshop and contributed to the development of responsive and evidence-based nutrition programs and interventions.

The workshop provided an avenue for local nutrition stakeholders to review existing programs, assess current nutrition priorities and challenges, and strengthen strategies to improve the nutritional status of the community over the next three years.

The activity underscored the importance of collaborative and strategic planning in addressing nutrition concerns and ensuring that local nutrition actions remain aligned with national goals and responsive to community needs.

The City Nutrition Center successfully conducted a three-day training on Maternal, Newborn, Infant, and Young Child Health and Nutrition (MNIYCHN) for newly volunteered Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) on August 24–26, 2026, held at the City Nutrition Center.

The training aimed to equip our new BNS with essential knowledge and practical skills in promoting proper maternal, newborn, infant, and young child health and nutrition at the community level. It focused on the importance of the first 1,000 days of life, maternal nutrition and care, essential newborn care, breastfeeding and complementary feeding, growth and development, nutrition assessment, and the prevention of malnutrition and common health concerns among mothers and young children.

The sessions also emphasized the vital role of BNS in nutrition education, community mobilization, early identification of nutrition and health concerns, referral of at-risk individuals, and supporting families in adopting healthy practices.
Serving as resource persons were Dr. Roy P. Maribojoc, MPH, City Nutrition Action Officer; Ralph Maribojoc, City Nutrition Program Coordinator; and Cristina Soria, RN, Nutrition Center Nurse.

Through this training, the City Nutrition Center continues to strengthen the capacity of our BNS as frontline partners in delivering nutrition and health services and in building healthier, better-nourished families and communities.

The City Nutrition Center conducted a Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Basic Course Training for newly recruited community volunteers on July 14–17 & 20, 2026, held at the City Nutrition Center, Calbayog City.

The five-day training aimed to equip our new community volunteers with essential knowledge, skills, and competencies in promoting proper nutrition, supporting community-based nutrition programs, and contributing to the health and well-being of families in their communities.

Through continuous learning and capacity building, we empower our nutrition volunteers to become stronger partners in creating healthier and more nourished communities.

Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program

The National Nutrition Council, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Calbayog City through the City Nutrition Center, conducted the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program on August 14, 2026 at the City Convention Center, Calbayog City, Samar.

The activity focused on strengthening nutrition interventions for children aged 6–23 months and pregnant women, while promoting the importance of proper nutrition during the First 1,000 Days of Life.

The program also featured the promotion of Pinggang Pinoy and the 10 Kumainments, along with the distribution of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to help families make healthier food and nutrition choices.

On July 29, 2026, the City Population Office successfully conducted an event entitled "Navigating Physical, Mental and Nutritional Health Challenges of High-Risk Adolescent Mothers" at the City Convention Center, Calbayog City, Samar.

One of the resource persons was City Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Roy P. Maribojoc, MPH, who delivered an informative discussion on maternal nutrition for high-risk teenage mothers. He also emphasized the importance of Pinggang Pinoy for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW), highlighting practical and balanced nutrition to support a healthy pregnancy and improve maternal and child health outcomes.

The event aimed to empower adolescent mothers with essential knowledge and practical strategies to address the physical, mental, and nutritional challenges they face, while promoting healthier lifestyles for both mothers and their babies.
