Alongside their first-quarter strategic meeting, the Apayao Provincial Tourism Services Office (PTSO) and Municipal Tourism Officers took to the field from May 19 to 20, 2026, to conduct joint validation and assessment assessments of potential and emerging tourism landmarks across Barangay Tanglagan, Bucarot, and Eva Garden.
The field inspection aimed to evaluate the readiness, safety, and unique appeal of several sites, with tourism experts providing actionable feedback and concrete suggestions to elevate these locations into sustainable travel destinations.

The multi-municipal team trekked through rugged terrain, research facilities, and agricultural areas to review diverse destinations, offering custom recommendations for infrastructure and community-based management:
Eva Garden Landmark Sites: The team checked the steep 1K Steps at Eva Garden to assess safety and foot traffic management, and inspected the site for the Proposed Hostel at Eva Garden. Officers suggested prioritizing environment-friendly architectural designs for the hostel to preserve the areaโs natural layout.
Scientific and Educational Tourism: The validation also covered the BRyA Research Center located in Eva Garden. The team discussed ways to integrate this facility into the local tourism circuit as a premier hub for educational and scientific tourism, showcasing Calanasan's unique biodiversity.
Agri-Tourism Gems: In Barangay Tanglagan, the assessment team visited Jardomio's Farm, a local strawberry farm, and Botbotan Lake. Tourism officers recommended creating dedicated agritourism packages for the farm and setting up eco-friendly viewing decks around the lake to protect its water quality.
Adventure and Recreation: The team also scouted the imposing heights of Mt. Masi for potential trekking and mountaineering trails. This was paired with an inspection of the Proposed Picnic Site at Bucarot, where officers advised adding simple, low-impact rest spaces, proper waste segregation systems, and local security measures.
Strategic Feedback for Community Improvement
During the evaluation, the provincial and municipal officers highlighted that while these hidden spots boast incredible natural beauty and massive potential for ecological research, local management is key to their success.
"Calanasan holds massive potential for eco-adventure, research, and farm tourism," noted the validation team. "Our goal is to help local communities map out these spaces so they can welcome travelers without losing the pristine charm that makes Apayao unique."
The collective inputs from the two-day validation will serve as a foundational blueprint for upcoming local tourism policies, securing technical and marketing support from the provincial government to ensure these sites are fully prepared for travelers.
