Beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program continue to contribute to the improvement of public schools as part of the Brigada Eskwela convergence initiative, with monitoring activities recently conducted in various schools across the municipalities of Cardona, Morong, and Teresa, and the City of Antipolo, June 3.
During the monitoring visits, DOLE-Rizal personnel observed beneficiaries carrying out a range of school preparation and maintenance activities in support of the opening of classes. Aside from repainting classrooms, repairing school facilities, and cleaning school grounds, several beneficiaries were also assigned to maintain the schools' Gulayan sa Paaralan projects.
The school gardens serve as a valuable learning resource for students while supporting nutrition-related initiatives within the schools. Through regular watering, weeding, cultivation, and upkeep of vegetable plots, beneficiaries help ensure that these gardens remain productive and beneficial to learners.
Among the beneficiaries is 26-year-old solo parent Lyka Denise Cruz of Cardona, whose child is currently enrolled in elementary school. She expressed her gratitude for being included in the program.
"Sana po marami pa po kayong matulungan na katulad namin. Maraming salamat po," Cruz said.
For many beneficiaries, the program not only provides temporary employment but also allows them to contribute directly to projects that benefit their own communities and families. Several participants shared that seeing improvements in the schools attended by their children made their work more meaningful.
The monitoring activity also forms part of DOLE's efforts to ensure that TUPAD projects are implemented effectively and that beneficiaries are provided with safe and productive work assignments. Through regular field validation and coordination with school administrators, the Department continues to strengthen accountability while maximizing the community impact of the program.
The initiative reflects the continuing direction of the Department under the leadership of Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino to pursue employment interventions that generate immediate assistance for vulnerable workers while creating tangible benefits for local communities.
As Brigada Eskwela activities continue across Rizal, TUPAD beneficiaries remain active partners in preparing learning environments that are safer, cleaner, and more conducive to learning for thousands of students in the province (with reports from Melvin Cabadin, John Paul Guiam, and Denyel Barachina, and Sherwin Sequijor). | via CBaisa
