MHO CAGWAIT CONDUCTS FOOD ESTABLISHMENT INSPECTIONS AND HEALTH INFORMATION CAMPAIGN IN FOUR BARANGAYS

CAGWAIT, SURIGAO DEL SUR | October 14–15, 2026- The Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Cagwait spearheaded the conduct of sanitary inspections of bakeries and carinderias, alongside an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign in Barangays Poblacion, Lactudan, La Purisima, and Bacolod on October 14–15, 2026.

The activity was conducted by Rural Sanitation Inspector V (RSI V) Crystal Loraine C. Engrova, RN, emphasizing compliance with Municipal Ordinance No. 34-26, which provides for customer access to free potable drinking water in food establishments, promoting consumer welfare, public health, and sanitation.

Complementing the inspections, health education sessions focused on dengue prevention and control, health preparedness during Super El Niño, and safe drinking water practices. The campaign highlighted the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites, preventing dehydration and heat-related illnesses, ensuring access to safe drinking water, and practicing proper water handling and sanitation.

This initiative underscores the Municipal Government of Cagwait's continued commitment, through the Municipal Health Office, to strengthening environmental sanitation, promoting food and water safety, preventing communicable diseases, and building healthier, safer, and more climate-resilient communities.

SCHOOL-BASED IMMUNIZATION CONTINUES IN CAGWAIT!

The second week of the School-Based Immunization (SBI) Program is underway! The RHU Cagwait Health Team, together with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Education (DepEd), remains committed to protecting our schoolchildren through vaccination.

This week, our health team continues to face challenges, including misinformation and fake news circulating on social media that cause fear and hesitation among parents. Despite these obstacles, our commitment to protecting every child remains strong. Through continuous Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities and persistent follow-ups, more parents are gradually gaining confidence and giving their consent to have their children vaccinated.

The SBI program provides Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (TD) vaccines for eligible Grade 1 and Grade 7 learners, and HPV vaccines for eligible Grade 4 and Grade 5 learners. These vaccines help protect children against serious vaccine-preventable diseases.

We understand that parents want only the best for their children. That is why we encourage everyone to seek information from trusted health professionals and reliable sources before believing or sharing claims on social media. Let us replace fear with facts, doubts with understanding, and misinformation with proper health education.

Together, we can protect our children! Through the cooperation of parents, teachers, health workers, and the entire community, we can strengthen public confidence in vaccination, work toward herd immunity where applicable, and help eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases.

RHU Cagwait, DOH, and DepEd: Working hand in hand for a healthier, safer, and better-protected generation!
