Megabest Food Manufacturing strengthened its food safety practices through a Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Misamis Oriental on August 18, 2026, at its facility in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.

The training covered essential food safety principles, including food safety hazards, personal hygiene and sanitation, prevention of cross-contamination, proper food handling and storage, facility cleanliness, and documentation practices. Emphasis was placed on the consistnent application of GMP procedures to minimize food safety risks and maintain product quality.

Following the training, the DOST team conducted a discussion with Megabest on the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in relation to the company's License to Operate (LTO) application. The discussion focused on possible approaches to address the FDA observations, including the necessary improvements and supporting documents needed to demonstrate compliance.

Through continued technical assistance and capacity-building, DOST Misamis Oriental supports local food enterprises in strengthening food safety practices, addressing regulatory requirements, and improving their overall manufacturing operations.

Golden Metals Fabrication Services and Atsons Agri Business Corporation (ATABCO) – P*k and Pak Meatshop underwent final monitoring under the Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) Program through a joint monitoring visit conducted by DOST Northern Mindanao and Summit Consultancy and Research Services on August 12, 2026.

The Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) Program is a DOST initiative that provides MSMEs with technical assistance, consultancy, and productivity improvement interventions to help enhance their operations, address production-related challenges, and improve overall competitiveness.

The monitoring activity marked part of the final phase of the Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) Program, providing an opportunity to assess the firms’ progress following the series of consultations and technical assistance provided throughout the program.

The team reviewed the implementation of recommendations, documented improvements, and discussed the firms’ current operational practices and remaining areas for improvement. The engagement also highlighted the importance of sustaining the gains achieved throughout the MPEX intervention beyond the program period.

Through MPEX, DOST continues to empower MSMEs by providing technical assistance and practical solutions that strengthen competitiveness and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
